Hi there

Does anyone have any links to information about the internal dimensions/specs and viewing angles of the Cessna 172?

I am trying to build a cessna-like box around our simulator, and I'm particularly interested in the distance from pilot-windscreen, and the sort of height/angle I should have the front view at relative to the controls...

Some pics of our set up are available at
http://psy.otago.ac.nz/cogerg

Take the Flight Simulators link on the left...

Any help would be had.  Thanks in advance!

Billy

I think that your best bet is to go down to your local field and find someone who owns one and see if you could take the measurements. This is your best option since you will get the measurements that you want instead of the measurements someone else took. The second option would be to click this link: http://customer.cessna.com/

on the righthand side of the page is the single engine support stuff. Try the service center locator to find a service center near you and if it is close call them up and explain what you are doing and they may tell you exactly what you want to know or maybe even let you stop by and see it for yourself.
Hope this helps in some way,

Kevin

EDIT: Thought I would save you some time and looked up the service center for you. I am almost positive that this is the nearest one for you.

Flightline Aviation Ltd.
Dunedin Airport
Dunedin, New Zealand
Phone: 64-3-486-2754
Fax: 64-3-486-2700
Email: info.dunedin@flightline.co.nz

The only other center in New Zealand is:

Flightline Aviation Ltd.
Ardmore Airport
Cessna Lane
Auckland, New Zealand
Phone: 64-9-299-6710
Fax: 64-9-299-9770
Email: info@flightline.co.nz

Hope that gets you closer to getting your shell built.

Yep, it may take some work, but at most airports where the people are even semi friendly, they will let you go out on the tarmac and look at one of their training planes. I mean it's not like you're going to seriously steal a Cessna 172. Roll Eyes

Addenum: KnightStryker, if I had the power I would make you an officer or something for being as thoughtful as too find the places for him. Cheers to you mate!

From experience in the cockpit, I can tell you this, it is really cramped lol. A six foot tall person (me) has just a little bit of a slight down angle on the gauges no matter where the seat is really. The panel is huge in a 172, so it would cover far too much if you were designing it on a screen. It shouldn't though in a full scale cockpit. Good luck buddy.
