How much memory do you have, what kind of video card? Pro/home version of XP? Copyrighted or illegal version of XP? Will you be able to use it after 30 days are up???

You might see a very slight improvement. WinXP uses about twice the Ram though. So it depends if you have enough Ram.

Your RAM is key here, i would recommend atleast 256MB.

I am also going upto XP soon, i found a cheap way of doing it legally.  I am quite good with comps so am buying OEM xp for £65.  The only thing i don't get is support from Microsoft which is useless anyway because i know all they know  8).  I already use XP on the other comps in my house just not mine.  Also this version comes with SPs and i can get more from the MS site.
OEM version is what you get if you buy a comp new with xp on it already.

It will still run it, you can turn off a lot of stuff in XP, but more ram would help.

I wish people wouldn't randomly and publicly call into question our members' legal status, it degrades the forum.   Angry

XP (With a decent amount of RAM i.e. 512MB+) trounces '98 in every respect (or about 30% under 3D Mark 2001 for example) that said, I'm using a machine 2,100mhz quicker than yours Dan.....

I'd swap the tnt2 for something like an MX440 (anything more powerful is pointless, the CPU won't be able to drive it properly)

You've said it yourself, time for a new 'un.  Roll Eyes

Hi Dan...!
I would go for the cheaper OEM version of Windows XP, (£65). Your local PC shop will sell you the CD.
The same goes for Norton anti-virus programs. The OEM version, (£25), is half the price of the fancy boxed version.... Roll Eyes...!

Cheers mate...!

Paul.

..at the mo' I am still running Windows '98, (with the occasional crash/lock-up).... Wink...!

P.S. I would be very wary of using a "copy" of Windows XP, Microsoft seem to have a way of detecting it whenever you try to download up-grades, contact them, etc.... Embarrassed...!

I'm with Fozzer and the rest.
I have built half a dozen or so computers in the last year and bought OEM versions of XP for all of them.
