After looking through some of the "Drumming" posts recently, I got to thinking about my many years of playing in bands. I dug these up last night after reminiscing about the old days in a previous post.  Cry

The Kit:

8" Tom
10" Tom
11" Tom
12" Tom
13" Tom
14" Tom
16" Floor
18" Floor
2 24" Bass drums...yes.....a double bass,  now that was "old school" drumming  Grin. I now use a double kick pedal now have sized down a bit on the kit!

The Cymbals:

14" Zildjian High Hat
14" Paiste splash
16" Paiste 3000 Crash
18" Paiste 3000 Crash
21" Paiste Ping Ride
20" Paiste China
I used to go through Paiste 3000's every 6 months...and they are Paiste's "heaviest gauge" cymbal!

I guess you guys didn't know I played the drums,...ehh?
Started when I was 10 years old. Been in many bands.
Original band for 7 years. We were on Metal Blade's "Best Unsigned Band in America" in 1990! Played the Limelite in Manhattan opening for a band called Kings X! Ahhh...those were the days.
After that did some session playing with different people on a few CD's then it was time to have fun!!.....Cover tunes and clubs. We were under a management company here on Long Island called "Omni Pop! We played every weekend Friday and Saturday from The Hamptons to NY City all the way up to Boston!! It was 3 sets that lasted about an hour or so. We drank for free, the songs were easy compared to the original stuff I was doing a few years prior. The original band was hard work!!! We rehearsed 3 nights a week at a studio. The music we were doing was pretty progressive. A mix between Rush, U2 and Metallica! It had a heavy side but was very melodic!
Anyway, getting back to the cover band. This was fun. The clubs, the free drinks,. The girls..!!!

It was definitely a time in my life that I will always remember! My guitarist and bass player from my original band went onto Berkley School of Music in Boston. They met up with another drummer and singer and were signed by Atlantic records back in 1998. They have 2 CD's out and a third on the way. The name of the band is "Big Wreck"! They play more in Canada since that is where the management is and the drummer and singer are from there. I saw them when they toured NYC at the Hammerstein 2 years ago. Still keep in touch with them and look forward to the next CD.
Well enough of my babbling............Think I will go home tonight and Jam to YYZ LIVE.........including the Drum Solo!!!
Who am I kidding...I have 2 year old and a second due in May! There is now a "sound curfew" in my house!

Here are the only 2 scanned shots I could find as of last night of the kit itself, the many others are in a box up in the attic.  Cry
Here is a shot of the kit on my parent’s front lawn a while back. My parents were away and the band came over and we jammed on the front lawn! Let's just say the neighbors were not too pleased!
...

Here is a shot of me with some "long" hair from a gig someplace on Long Island.
...

Sound Check. We were the first band that played at this club. It was opening night. The stage was not even finished! This was a fun gig. It was in our home town and the place was packed!
...

OK, here we are at the "cover band" scene! Bi-levels were still in and you can see my kit is definitely "trimmed" down.
...

Last set, buzzed, happy and having fun!!
...

Hope you liked my trip to "garage Days........Revisited!"

Aaaah yes, glory days, well Dave, I don't know about you, but I would sure like to go back and do it all again, especially if I could go back with the wisdom I have aquired over the years since leaving that life behind.
Here's a couple of my photo's from back in 'the day'.

The first two are from 1986, of course I'm the dude in the middle (as always).
The third shot is 10 years later 1996, totally different band, it was the last band I had before calling it quits.

MAN!! THE 80's ROCKED! We looked stupid but that was the day!! Grin
I relive the "metal generation" everyday via record, cd, mp3.
As a matter of fact I was jammin to some Priest last night just to get up this morning and read this:

http://channels.netscape.com/ns/celebrity/story.jsp?idq=/ff/story/0001%2F2004021...

I now have mixed feelings about listening too them now!

P.S. I don't mean you guys look stupid! Smiley
Paz sort of reminds me of a young "Uncle Ted"!!
