Here's the story. I just got CFS3 a week or so ago.

I simply would like to know some good tips on dogfighting, and shooting down enemies without wasting too much ammo.

I'd very much appreciate some help Smiley

Get in nice and close, and then pump lead into the nose and cockpit, this usually does the trick Wink
Basically Mike its practice, but the closer you are, the bigger the target and the more effective are your weapons.

Remember to lead your targets (not aim at where they are now!). Happy hunting Mike.

The target is moving, you have to aim ahead of it to hit it. If its climbing you have to aim above it, if its diving you'll have to aim below it etc Wink

What Ozzy is talking about is deflection shooting. You should aim ahead of your target, especially when making a beam attack or are in a turning fight. The further away from the target, the more deflection angle you will need. To get this right needs practice. Wink
I find it is more difficult to get into those close, tight turning dogfights in CFS3 than it was in CFS2 and so mastering the art of deflection shooting becomes more essential. I also find fast, powerful fighters like the Tempest are better in a dogfight in CFS3 because the extra speed lets you get in nice and close with most opponents and lets you get away again just as quickly.

I find that if your up against a 262 then a few rounds into the tail will usually remove that part of the plane. Also try and hit one of his engines. They can't take any damage and it will slow him down nicely.

Use the Tempest for dogfights. Stay on the tail of your target and don't shoot intill your sure of a kill. The best times to shoot are when on his tail in a climb or when he's just pulling out of a dive.

Using these tactics I find I can ususally down at least five enemy fighters before I run out of ammo.
