well I have been repainting some of my airplanes. Adding names etc....

But my main question is, just how do you tell where and which areas of the picture are what ?

I have trouble getting a picture on the plane. Loading it on fs9 I see I have pasted the item in the wrong area of the plane. It is easier if there are already textures/paint on the plane. But how do you do it with a blank slate? I have one of the DC-3 that I would like to do. But I want to be able to position it correctly the first time..

The normal method for creating a new paintjob is to open the file using a paint program capable of utilizing layers and then create a new layer on the picture.  Then paint it as you normally would, paying attention to what parts are what.  If you are having trouble distinguishing what goes where, create a copy of the unedited texture folder and start deleting specific files and enter the sim to see whats missing from it.
