Ok I have sparked some interests in starting a new project. One that would take me quite a while to design.

I ask the question because I would like to try out Gmax to design a Comanche attack helicopter with full load out! Now there is a qoute that some GMAX models for FS20002 were compatible with FS2004 (FS9). So I am wondering if Gmax will also work for FS9 without any compatiblity issues before I download it.

My previous project was a wash out (Pete can testify to that if he still remembers me  Sad) I was working a full load out F14 Tomcat for FS2002. But I lost interests for it when I saw the need to purchase an animation program and a panel program as well as learning how to apply textures. Caused a melt down on my part and I gave the project to someone and that was the last I heard of it.

But seeing as someone has created a much better Tomcat (that I like alot), I am switching gears and moving to helicopters. The comanche and Bell Huey Super Cobra (the one with Dual turbine system) have caught my interests.

So If someone can stear me in the right direction with my Gmax issue. I can get to work!

There is no Gmax but Gmax itself.

AT THIS TIME, a separate gamepack for FS9 has not been released, so all MODELS are essentially both FS2002 and FS2004.  The "differences" are in tweaking the flight dynamics and a bit on the graphics.

that is good to know, I checked out this site recommended by Brandon. I found a version of Gmax 1.3 that according to someone in a Gmax forum for FS2004 compatible topic stated it worked good without problems. So I am going to give that a try and see how it works out.

I won't be releasing any details of my work, until I am certain I have a finished product this time around. But I will touch bases and share info with people that have experience using this Gmax program to help me out as I go!

From what I have seen, the Gmax interface is very detailed and takes a while to master. Time I really don't have, but will play around with time that I do have to spare. But essentially I am working on a Sikorsky RAH66 Comanche or a Bell Huey Super Cobra Helicopter. Both with ofcourse full load out!

I got it from the same website following a different link though! Gmax has a very complex interface there  Shocked! I don't even know where to begin.... ??? It's nothing like FSDS from Abacus. It just has to many tings to click on that I don't even know what they do. The tutorial doesn't explain anything on starting aircraft models.

Are there any tutorials here?

Go here.   http://www.3dbuzz.com/   . These are video tutorials. They are for 3dsmax but the program is so close to gmax that most of the tutorials apply.  First register (free) then go to downloads. Scroll to the bottom of the page that comes up and click the "agree selection, then select 3dsmax VTM's . You will also have to download winrar to unzip them here   http://www.rarlab.com  .  You may try to click on the video name to download it and get nothing. That's because the download button is to the far right. Depending on your browser, you may have to scroll right to see it.
     Hope this helps,

You won't get very far making aircraft for FS9 in Gmax until you get the two plugins that allow you to export the file in Gmax into the mdl format. As far as I know, the only way to get these plugins is to get a copy of FS2002 Pro.    People had been hopeing that these plugins would come with FS9, but they didn't.
