I'm not sure if this is the right section to be posting this in, but oh well. I've always wanted to toy around with the tools used in desiging aircraft for the flight sims, but haven't wanted to pay any money, and isn't so sure where I can get any good tools. If anyone knows where to get tools where I can just download, and are somewhat simple (ok, maybe not simple) please reply and tell me where.

There are no free tools that will build a functional plane.

Gmax is itself free...but without a file only published with FS2000 it won't build a flyable plane. Sad

Gmax can be downloaded from www.discreet.com and can make flyable planes.

However, you need the Makemdl.exe that can be found in the FS2002 SDK's [software developement kits]. The kits can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/fs2002_downloads_sdk.asp#top

You also need the FSModelExp.dle file. However, this file can only be found in FS2002pro. You either have to find someone who can send you a copy of the file or someone who can export your designs for you.

I know that sending a copy of FSModelExp.dle to someone else is illegal, but no one here is willing to buy a $40 sim just for the measly file that it has.
