This is very close to the main office, in fact it was taken as this guy pushed his clipped wing cub off the fueling pad......is the amphib off the right wing tip the one in question ?........I took the shot for reference as I intended to build one some day and not have a yellow cub.....
....the "A" on the apron is from the field identifier ......
......second shot is how my Cub came out 10 years later

Probably right Hagar, but its been a long time and it may have been an open cockpit at some earlier time, but as for the VW power, well,...thats just out of sight in this image....
I really wish I had my old B/W's as I know I had many of the first and second row A/C.......the first row sat facing south, but as mentioned, the second row faced north and Major Mackenzie Road, which in those old ways was just known as Maple Side Road........I was within a bicycle ride from this place.......thats how I got there when I was only 15..........

Hi Ken:
Thanks for the interest
.
Yes now I recall it was Maple Side Road and later changed to Major McKenzie Road or Drive.
If I remember correctly you went West one road from Maple Airport and North to King City Airport and then West about a mile to to that Airport. Can't rightly remember the name of that road but I think it was Jane Street?
How many good old hamburgers did you eat at the restaurant at the Maple Airport that became the club house? Would you remember the cactus plants in the bay window facing South towards the paved runway?
Sorry that is not the aircraft in your picture I am looking for, if I am correct I think the one I am looking for is farther to the West and the second row and I believe closer to the grass strip rather than the pad and fuel pump. The engine was mounted above the wing.
By the way would you remember Vic Arthur or Sandy?
Vic was the CFI there, wonderful gentlemen both of them.
Again thanks for the interest guys and hope you find your pictures Ken.
Cheers....Happy Landings...Doug
P.S. You certainly did justice to that cub Ken...Very Nice

Indeed it was Jane St to the west of the airport.......I also had some shots of the King City field, which now BTW, is a construction company lot,(Dufferin Constr, I think) on the NE corner of Hwy 400 and King/Vaughan Townline.....wow, can't believe I remember that !.....incidentally I spoke with my brother this morn(his Birthday call) and he tells me, he now is managing a Kelseys on the south east corner of Jane St and Major Mack........pretty darn close to where the old airfield was .....funny coincidence
...........
Sorry, don't recognise any of the names you've dropped, but I do know my son was taken for a ride by a woman instructor there on the day I shot that blue Cub........her name was Adele Fogel....good friend of a friend who arranged it for us.........so ok now, stop the brain from workin overtime and get onto lookin for the old pics...........

Hi Folks:
Went to Hamilton Ontario yesterday to look at some friends pictures of Maple Airport.
The only shots of aircraft he had were to the West of and South of the main refuelling pad and some of the maintenance hangar.
There were a few pictures of aircraft to the South of the club house but I think that is where we parked most visitors if they came in to eat and refuel.
My source tells me he has one VW engine left as he took a deposit from a young man who wants the second engine for a mud dune buggy. The deal is not firm yet as he has not received all the funds.
I am running out of leads for this aircraft and like me most of the people around at that time would be pushing sixty plus years of age.
I can not believe this was one of a kind aeroplane as the name was mentioned many times years ago and I am still certain it was of German design.
Will not give up looking nor will I give up building this aeroplane if I can find the plans.
I know people read this forum and someone has to have an answer.
Well Cheers....Happy Landings...Doug

Thanks to the Riflemans posting in another location on this forum and the site information he took the time to post I think I have found my lost aeroplane.
The aeroplane is a VOLMER-JENSEN (VJ-22).
I have been on several sites with owners who have been very helpful and as I recall the aeroplane I saw had a VW engine. I understand some information is comming my way in the mail and very soon.
I will also post something in the Cafe Forum but for now a BIG THANKS to KEN, DOUG AND IVAN.
Cheers...Happy Landings....Doug
