Hello, and please help if you can.
I don't know how on earth this happened...but I downloaded an airplane that has screwed up my FS2002 real bad. Not sure how much I have contributed to this, but to make a long story short, the 747 panels and gauges from this airplane have overwritten the panels on the "read-only" stock 747 that come with the simulator. For instance, if I choose "Landmark 747" the panels have been replaced by the downloaded planes. When I go to FSEditor, I get an error message for the 747 saying that the panels cannot be viewed as they are incompatible with FS Edit. I can view these panels under the 747 file in the aircraft folder, and they are the bogus ones. Not to mention, but this has caused my FS2002 to run choppy and freeze up rendering it bascially useless. Yes, I have erased all known FS files and uninstalled FS2002, but the panels appear after each re-install. This download must live in some other place on my PC causing it to overwrite 747 after each install. Does anyone know how I can remove any unwanted FS file after I uninstall the game? Also, it shouldn't start running choppy, it has always run fine as this is a brand new PC....someone please let me know if they have an idea...thanks a lot this is very disappointing.

Hi
I assume (?) that the file that you downloaded was a zipfile. If so, I suggest that you open that zipfile again, but DONT unzip it to your FS folders, instead unzip it somewhere 'safe'.
Then, using windows explorer, you can look in detail at the files that were included in that zipfile. Make a note of them. Using the search facility, find them and delete each of them in turn.
Hope this helps.
Cheers Paul

Hello there,
You could try something I did with MSTS. I buggered Train Simulator up once with a download so what I did was uninstalled it and reinstalled it
in a different folder
(just make a name up that you'll remember). It worked fine after that. If I was you I would consider scanning your downloads for viruses before you unzip them (Kaspersky Control Centre is a great anti-virus program that you can download for a trial period from zdnet. Its the one with over 1000 downloads)
Hope this helps

I'm not sure quite how this could happen. If you do a full Uninstall (delete the FS2002 main directory folder after uninstall is complete & before installing) you will end up with a fresh install of FS2002 with no addons. Another method if you have sufficient HD space is the duplicate install. Rename the FS2002 main directory folder to any other name - then insert CD-1 & install in the usual way. This will give you 2 installs of FS2002 that will run independently. You can safely delete the original after carefully transferring your addons.
To avoid problems in future please ignore all advice/instructions to extract/unzip files direct to FS2002. Always extract zipfiles to a Temp folder before pasting the files/folders to their correct locations in the sim. When installing 3rd party gauges paste the files direct to FS2002\GAUGES. Do NOT overwrite files/folders if prompted.

The safest way, while time consuming, is to always unzip to another directory (mine is convinently C:/unzipped/) then examine the files carefully, cut and paste them where they belong, and try it out. About once a week-once a month depending on how often you download stuff, clear out the unzipping folder. Also, be careful with executable (.exe) files. Most of these are just fine, but I run them on the FS2000 (which I uninstalled) directory, to see where it would put the files. If a new FS2002.exe suddenly appears, I know I shouldn't be using that file!
