I have a challenge that I have not overcomed yet myself because it is very difficult! Now with the use of the F14 Tomcat and any global positioned FD3 CVN73 carrier. Set the weather to Major Thunderstorm  Shocked!

The challenge is to take off and go around and make a landing on the carrier in the heart of the storm! Oh yea the catch to doing this is you must do it at night! On a calm night no problem quiete easy. But with the wind tossing you around and the inability to keep your aircrafts bearings (which way is up) it makes this very difficult. Now here are the rules.

1. You may use the GPS to locate the position of the carrier and the glidescope for the carrier. But once you have established the glidescope and can see the carrier in the distance. You are no longer permitted to use the GPS (that would be cheating Grin)

2. no use of the cockpit or virtual cockpit veiw at all during the flight! That means you have to trust the altimeter in the banner provided by pressing shift+z.

That is it go out there and fight the beast of the storm!

Remember your flight has to take place at night in the middle of a MAJOR THUNDERSTORM!

If you can accomplish this, post your screenshots and no cheating with the slew mode! i want to see pics of your approach, the plane just above the flight deck, and the smoke of your touchdown! 3 pics!

Now the closest I ever got was crashing into the flightdeck and landing in the repair bay of the carrier  Undecided! OUCH! it is not easy. the wind whips you around like a toy!

Happy Landings

So I see no one is up for the challenge! Atleast let me know if you are attempting to do it!

I am going to take a few swings at it myself later this afternoon.

Oh sorry Mav, hehe, It's just that I have a hard enough time landing on it in broad daylight, in good weather as it is. And plus I have a policy of flying from the cockpit,(realisim, you know) and only going outside just to enjoy the view from there from time to time, and to do screenshots.
Heh, but still just for the heck of it I'll give it a shot, but no guarantees I'll be successful........Lol!

You know that is very difficult for me (flying in cockpit veiw) I can't make good landings because i trust my eyes too much and not the instrument guages. It took me a while to get used to that during carrier landings!

But I will force myself to do it from the cockpit veiw!

My own challenge is even too difficult for me!

I think Micorsoft has definately made this as real as it gets. Every single time I make a picture perfect approach, just as I am approaching the deck, the crosswinds swing the cat to the right! Then I always crash on the deck of the carrier because I come in too hard!

it wasn't meant to be! I guess this is the reason the millitary never flies jets in Major Thunderstorms because the winds fling the planes around like toys and America doesn't have that kind of money to let me crash 3 $30 million dollar planes in attempts to practice landings in bad weather!
