Good to know that Viper. Most members of this forum of all ages have some interest in history. The Jokes forum seems a strange place to discuss it but I suppose here is as good as anywhere else.
All you ever wanted to know about Admiral Lord Nelson.
http://www.nelson-society.org.uk/html/introduction.htm
This is HMS Victory - his flagship during the Battle of Trafalgar.
http://www.hms-victory.com/
Preserved in dry dock at Portsmouth she is still manned by officers & ratings of the Royal Navy & is the oldest commissioned warship in the world. Whether you live in the UK or on holiday in this country try & pay her a visit some time. I'm sure you will find it interesting. You might even trip over that brass plaque & understand what the joke is about.
PS. Not sure that would be possible as it's most likely roped off.

This is a BIG apology for my Nelson joke. I know this is the joke forum, but once a thread gets started it just shows how it can stimulate reaction.
and that is what it is all about
I thank you all for your comments and if I have helped in anybody's education, I am well pleased, you guys across the pond!!
More jokes to follow....possibly with explanations following
Well done, guys
Kind regards
Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson.....deceased

Please don't apologise for the joke Tony. It might be older than I am but the oldies always were the best - matured like fine wine.
PS. At least it gave me a giggle even if nobody else understood it.

No apology needed! I laughed at the fact it was funny because I didn't know what the hell it meant!
Actually you'll notice i laugh at some real stupid things!!!
The word "bibble"
Don't know why but its funny!
Actually I should be thanking you!!! I would have never known anything about this man if it were'nt for your joke.
And thanks to Hagar for the link.
Because of you two my life has been enriched!!!!!!!!!
Who would have thought that, all because of a joke I didn't understand!

HMS Victory is hardly a boat old chap. She is a warship of Her Majesty's Royal Navy.
Is there a regulation that stipulates a commissioned ship has to be afloat? I could be quite wrong but believe that most RN shore establishments are also traditionally run as commissioned "ships".

Hi Hagar,
I think you are right. Remember HMS is Her Majesty's Ship, and all the shore stations are preceded by HMS.
For instance, RNAS Culdrose is also the home of HMS Seahawk if I remember correctly.

This is true, RNAS Culdrose is also HMS Seahawk and one of the Royal Navy's concrete aircraft carriers.
I think in England most people know who Nelson is even if they only know him as the dude on top of a columb in trafalga square.
And Fretnstuff, regarding "bibble" I discovered today that a bibbling was school boy slang for six of the best. I am wondering if the two words are related.
Woodlouse2002 PITA and BAR!!!!!!!!&&&&Our Sovereign Lord the King chargeth and commandeth all persons, being assembled, immediately to disperse themselves, and peaceably to depart to their habitations, or to their lawful business, upon the pains contained in the Act made in the first year of King George the First for preventing tumults and riotous assemblies. God Save the King.&&&&Viva la revolution!
