Found these today and all i can say is WOW.
Its starting to really sink in how big the A380 is going to be, let justhope those engineers were correct in wind tunnel testing as it doesnt exactly look like its gonna be a graceful plane:)
I despise airbus, but i will give them alot of credit if this plane really does fly.

well first of all the slogans,, good lord dont they ever get tired of them.
secondly, a few years back they promised my dad a job in filton, then a few weeks before he was going to start, they mysteriously lost the contract he was to sign, and the job was no longer there. For what is now supposed to be the biggest commercial plane maker, they act like a bunch of amatures in many areas.

Are you suggesting "fuselage envy"?
My question is, with fewer and fewer people flying now days because of terrorism, the hassle of security, and mainly cost.
Why the hell do they keep spending money making planes bigger to carry more people? You know they are going to have a hard time filling a plane that big, and you know it is going to cost more to fly it so who pays in the long run?
The customer!
Or am I missing something? Is the need for a plane this size really there?
Either way it is going to be a sight to behold when completed!!!

The situation might be a little different right now but I can remember exactly the same objections to the Boeing 747 when it was first proposed. One popular headline at the time was "It will never catch on".

You know, I asked the same question several months ago, but now that I've thought about it, it makes sense. If they can fit more people into one plane, it means less flights, and less expense for the airline. The only question is where did they put the bar?

virgin have got one up front i believe.
with plans for a gym aswell.
with technology as it is, that shouldnt cost to much more than the A340 to operate. filling it isnt a problem its being used on mainly high yeild routes, america-asia.
Europe-asia,, and the australia routes. its going to be horribly cramped in there though, bottom layer is believed to be 2-5-2 top layer 3-4-3 perhaps the other way round.
Remember companies like fed-ex are also buying them so i am looking forward to getting to see these beasts in memphis one day, just for the thrill of seeing such a huge plane fly.

It makes a lot of sense. In the UK & Europe, airspace is terribly overcrowded now & the ATC services are almost at breaking point. In theory at least, a larger aircraft capable of carrying more passengers means less aircraft to deal with. The British government announced plans only this month for extending airports & even building new ones to cope with projected increased air traffic over the next 20 - 30 years. It's quite possible they got it wrong (again) as I've been told by those in the know that the airline business is in serious decline & might never recover.
The only problems I can forsee are the runway & parking facilities for a much larger aircraft (not to mention hangarage & maintenance facilities) & handling the increased amount of passengers & baggage on each flight in the terminal.

side note of the size and runway thing. Very few airports right now can handle the A380. LAX may never be able to support it, due to poor planning of the airport. Most airports are in a rush to make it possible to accept this plane.

Not necessarily the case. Most people don't book reservations based on what kind of plane they're flying on. The few that do, don't usually complain that the plane is "too big". (Usually the opposite is true!)
As for a need, there is a definite need. Airspace is so congested at the moment, this plane will definitely help reduce that.
I also despise Airbus (I'm a diehard Boeing Boy), but I have to admit that there's something intriguing about this bird.
I am, however, reminded of another European creation that was hailed as the biggest and most beautiful in the world.
If I recall, that one didn't do so well.

If you're referring to Concorde, I'm not sure it was ever claimed that it was the biggest but there is no doubting its beauty. It's still the most beautiful aircraft I've ever seen & ever likely to.
It was also a brilliant success - proven by remaining in regular service for some 30 years. The fact that it was not more successful had nothing to do with the design of the aircraft. It's quite possible the same will apply to the A380.

Ah OK. You said European creation. I didn't even consider it to be honest as the Titanic was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Not what most Brits would consider European, especially in those days.

Since when was the Titanic beautiful?
You might not like airbus, but i totally dispise any kind of sea-faring transportation.
I think its good that somebody is actually producing somthing that will help the airways, and I'm even happier that its Europe thats doing it, because Europe needs help there more than anyone.

This is what many Americans seem to find hard to understand. At the time Titanic was built Northern Ireland was part of Great Britain & the great British Empire. Although Ireland & Britain are geographically situated in the continent of Europe this would never have been regarded as European. Many people here (not me personally) still have problems coming to terms with being thought of as Europeans. I am English first & foremost & always will be but have no objections to being called British or European.

All the difference in the world. The full name of what is known as Britain or the UK is in fact the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland (or Ulster). This consists of 4 separate countries each with its own heritage & culture - England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland. It used to include the whole of Ireland until the separation of North & South (Eire) in the 1920s. A patriotic Scot, Weshman or Ulsterman would be very offended to be called English. Some don't much like being called British.
Calling the Titanic a European creation would be much the same as calling a Brazilian hero like aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont an American. Although this is technically correct as Brazil is part of the continent of America he was not a citizen of the United States of America which is regarded a country in its own right.

The mind boggles when you concider the cabin desighns for meal carts and chillers, stowages for carry on bags and gally possitions. Cart elevators toilets , stairs , Not to forget Emergency procedures for both decks and stairways. And what if they put a bump on top for the pilots, or will the teck crew be separate. and when one starts the breakfast service, How many Omelets are going to be heated 500 ? 700 ? the begining of the air cattle of people herds. But this was a funny bird when it came out too.
And the old lower loab gally looked like this
