After some debate, East Midlands Airport is to be renamed Nottingham East Midlands Airport. For those who don't know, EMA is in Leicestershire not in Notts and has a Derbyshire post code ??? Work that one out.

If this is correct the airport is slightly nearer Nottingham than anywhere else.
Quote:
Location: The airport is located in central England, 21km (13 miles) southwest of Nottingham, 11km (17 miles) southeast of Derby and 30km (19 miles) northwest of Leicester

These people seem to have very little imagination. I'm sure I could suggest something better. It seems to me they could call it something much more romantic like Robin Hood Airport - or how about Henry Royce* Airport.  Roll Eyes

Too late now as it appears the decision has already been made.

PS. What was wrong with Castle Donington anyway? ???

PPS. I just noticed they seem a tad mixed up with their conversions. Now I'm really confused. ???

Mixing the facts to suit themselves Undecided

Poor old Tollerton is all I can say. Be interesting if lots of GA pilots all got confused and went the EMA instead, or worse if vice-versa...

It seems now that Derbyshire and Leicestershire MP's are to raise the matter in the Commons. As long as I remember it's always been called East Midlands. The airport is getting more traffic all the time, so why the need to change the name at all ???

Well done to everyone for looking on maps etc, but as a resident of Derby (Spondon to be exact) I'm amazed how they can name it after Nottingham.

1.)Airport is situated in Castle Donington in Derbyshire
2.)Name was fine before
3.)New name is frankly, rubbish!

My main dissapoinment is the need for them to change the name, though nobody is going to change what they call it  Wink. East Midlands is still a great airport and I'm sure for some of the American's it is easier to guess where EAST MIDLANDS is than Nottingham- East Midlands.

I'm just going to apply for an assistance job at the East Mids Aeropark which should be fun!

Maybe we should start a petition or something!  Wink

Regards,
James

Hey Charlie,

I meant it in the meaning that "Well where are the Midlands... the middle of the country, so the East Midlands must be in the Middle East of England!"  Wink
