Hi,
I received PC Aviator's Mega Scenery 2004 New York today. It's well worth it. Everyone who has been mad, dont be. You have to see it for yourself. It places buildings accurately and the elevation data is excellent.  It has updated my home airport amazingly. The satellite imagery is also excellent, but in some places it is placed a little incorrectly, but its very good otherwise!!

I really like it. You can request more images by e-mailing me if you haven't decided on it yet. Thanks.

I didn't reply to the first post about Mega Scenery 2 because I actually thought it was rather decent.  being a New York City area resident (staten island) I understand that large skyscraper only exist in two sections fo Manhattan...because of the lay of the land, and the sturdiness of the rock beneath the earth's surface building the size of the empire state building for example could only be placed in certain areas.  I thought it was rather accurate in places such as the shoreline, southern Manhattan...and central aprk really looks pretty nice, too...

Just my two cents, though.

I'm not impressed at all.  I don't think it is near the quality of Part 1.

What's not impressive?  Are you judging it by the quality of this persons screen shots?  Didn't it ever occur to some of you guys, that simply the difference in the REAL scenery that is being "photographed" might be the big factor as to why this version is so disappointing?  There isn't anything the MegaScenery designers can do about the "natural" scenery they are dealing with.  New York and Los Angeles are two completely different cities, and naturally, look a bit different from above.  New York is relatively flat and contains a lot of concrete and building sturcture.  Not too exciting!  One of the highlights of the So Cal scenery is the diverse landscape, ESPECIALLY the moutainouse regions.  I live in California, and therefore relate to the California scenery much more than New York where I have never been.  I am not saying that the New York scenery is exactly stunning...I'm just saying that might simply be caused by the New York landscape itself.

Which is what I have been saying!

Hey mike I will take it that the quality of the images looks like it got buffered down by your paint program or photo capture program. But still when you look at Mega Scenery 1. They caught the detail of every major road in the city in detail.

I have a few (4 pics) requests

1. fly low next to the FDR Drive near the under path of the Queensborro bridge take a pic.

2. follow 1st ave uptown to the bronx across the willis ave. bridge and show me a pic of the housing develops in all of the area around!

3. Most important show me a pic of Yankee Stadium. I want to see if they created a new model or just stuck with the default looking model.

4. Take a pic of the Grand Concourse (the main through fare street through the south bronx.

Dude if they don't provide this much detail, I wouldn't be satisfied! How can you find your house if they don't even keep it real with these details of NEW YORK!

Hi Mav.
I dont think the Mega Scenery creators wanted to really update new models. Just make them accurate. Some places in Connecticut, such as the Sikorsky Aicraft helipad is covered with buildings. They can't do all of it. There is no new Yankee Stadium, nor did I expect them to make a new one. I will take those pictures, leave them at 1280X1024 and post the links. I also have a few of my home airport, you can see the MAJOR diffrence!
The quality was decreased GREATLY by photoshop. I had to put them from 1280X1024 to 800X600, who doesnt expect a decrease in quality, especially JPEG. Also, the quality of the images might be decreased because the satellite imagery resolution is  not the highest of SoCal.. I can find my house also Smiley

I tried to re enact your pics but couldn't find the locations in your pics. So I took a pic of Laguardia with the freeware scenery addon. There are two things I want you to take note of!

...

In this pic do you notice the parking lot in the background, How about the ATC tower next to the American Airlines Terminals (like the real one). I didn't notice either in your pic there!

...

On this swoop down of the runway, my intention was to catch a pic of the "Welcome to New York" sign at LaGuardia as in the real airport. Can't feel more homely then that! Is that their in Mega Scenery.

Let me ask you this .. Does your Laguardia have a fence around the airport?  ???! I will take another pic of that for ya.

I couldn't take a landscape pic of NY because I don't have any aircraft that can climb that high to catch that pic! The tomcat got to about 52,000 ft but I couldn't get the whole geography of manhattan in the pic.

Now by all means if Mega Scenery has improved I don't think your screenshots are impressing me. I think you need to up your resolutions and show me something.

Mav,
You seem to think MegaScenery is supposed to have new objects and be a total facelift for New York. It's not. Its just satellite imagery. They did reposition some objects, but thats not why I bought it.

From developers:
Enhanced Autogen Scenery, Improved Night Lighting, Support For Flying In All Seasons, Thousands of Miles of Hand Etched Coastlines, Accurate Repositioning of Default FS2004 Objects, 150% more scenery than the previous title, and more....
     They never said new objects..

Dude if Satelite positoning of objects is the only upgrade for new york you get with MegaScenery2004. I think PCAviator can keep it!

I am having fun with freeware addons that enhance the New York area and provide greater detail! That is what turned me away from it! Hope you enjoy your new Territory!

Man you are expecting WAY too much.  It is simply REAL satelite imagery to offere REAL scenery beneath the plane while you fly.  MUCH more interesting than the default scenery.  All that the repositioning of objects means is, TO MATCH THE SCENERY IT SITS ON.  The So Cal scenery has a few problems with autogen objects not sitting in the same place that same object sits on the scenery below it.  For examnple, Disneyland...the buildings are not on top of the REAL photo of Disneyland.  There is a fix in the works for this, but for New York they got it right the first time.  Im sorry that MegaScenery doesnt add the "Welcome to New York" sign to your airport.  That's expecting a little much for software that simply adds a true REAL landscape to look at.  MegaScenery does NOT add 3D objects and focuses on a much broader aspect than just minute airport detail.

I totally get it now  Grin! That is why I am not interested in it! I took up somoneelses offer to take buildings and build my own New York and put buildings in places they should be!

Like the project where I work at just across the willis ave bridge in the bronx from manhattan! I don't think it is much to demand some detail in the New York area. Addons add more detail to the default scenery to make it more realistic!

Mega Scenery 2 is definately not an upgrade I would be insterested in.

I posted here because of what I saw on their website and Mega Scenery New York was nothing like the great detail I saw in their California version of Mega Scenery. I felt it was necessary to blow up their spot!

Well now that it has been explained that this program does nothing to improve the detail of the scenery and all that it does is take objects and put them in their geographical position as per satelite imagery. Then it really wasn't nothing to Hoop Da la over!

I understand that NY is not as exciting as California.  I made my decision based on the pics at the official website for the scenery, and these pics back up what I saw on that site.  The textures are not as clear nor are they as vivid colorwise as the first version.  Take the highways for the biggest example.  They were much more pronounced in the first version and they actually showed a bit of depth in the way they were shaded.  It just looks like this scenery was rushed.

Your shots are good, but that scenery is not at all a good add-on. It looks like they just let a 5 year old play around with Gmax, or FSSC, or whatever they used to make it Angry Angry

Im just curious...are you sure you have all the display settings the same in both screen shots?  I ask because I noticed you have water effects on in the New York shot, but off in the So Cal shot.  I would think its possible that could effect terrain quality...I dunno, try to keep consistent if you are going to compare.

Those are not my shots Silver.  Those are linked off of the official site from the product.  I would imagine they kept the settings at there recommended levels for both as they are the ones trying to sell it.
