That's how it's always been done in my experience. What's new about it?
Bear in mind that I haven't visited the US for several years.

Maybe Fozzer would like that. In fact I wouldn't put it past him to set the gizmo off deliberately.

Hmm... a penny can set these machines off. Maybe I'll put a penny in my shoe next time I go through a terminal... Not!

probably the most intelligent form of security i have heard for a long time.....dunno if u heard about all this red and green ticket business and personal detail scanning for terrorists i think thats stupid
the main two i would be for would be the second time on the scanner and an air guard thingy marshal whatever they are called...that would remove all terrorism from planes
there taking security to extreme and delays etc are sure to happen.. gonna loos money

Before, setting off the metal detector meant a secondary search, which involves removing shoes and getting wanded while screeners search carry-on luggage

whenever I went to the airport, they had me take off myshoes and put them through the x-ray machine along with the rest of my belongings.

they mean physically search your belongings, pull them from the bag, smash your shoes against a wall to see they dont explode:)
