New to all this fs stuff and really loving it. This is a great site and going through all the posts has answered a lot of questions for me.
Something I dont understand is going online to fly. What does it do for you that you dont have in the reg fs?
thanks
tom
There I was, running out of ideas, fuel, altitude and airspeed all at the same time.......you might call it a bad day.

Real people!
When you're flying online, for example on VATSIM, you have live air traffic controllers working to guide all the planes (flown by people all around the world) to the right places. It's more fun communicating with a real person than just pressing 1 and 2 and interacting with a computer.

Hi
You do not have to belong to Vatsim or Ivao to fly online. I do fly a lot on Ivao, but I also fly a lot with just a friend using Multiplayer only. This can be lots of fun, and it does not matter if you are not experienced. What you need to fly privately is firstly, get Roger Wilco. this is a voice programme (free) that allows you to talk to a friend. You create a channel, use a password of your choice that only you and whoever else you wish to know it, has access to. How we do it is that at a certain time at night, I open a channel, my friend joins the channel. We open FS, go to an airport, I open and host Multiplayer, he joins then we fly!!! I also open Multiplayer in FS Nav which shows us as 'tadpoles' then I act as Atc to get my friend from A to B. No pressure at all, just fun and gaining experience.
If you fancy a go and have h/phones with a mike get R/Wilco and reply to this and we can arrange something to show you the works.
Regards,

Online flying offers a lot of things. In addition to live air traffic control, which was mentioned in one of the replies, it offers a human element which you don't get in FS itself.
For example, no matter how much AI traffic you add to your sim, you're going to get aircraft performing the way they're "supposed to".
Once you get humans behind the controls, you will experience something entirely new. It's an added level of realism.

Hi,
Hyperian, you got it right!!! I have just finished a flight from Jersey to East Midlands ( UK ) and had throttle problems. talked all the way down by ATC ( EGTT Centre.) Brilliant!!!!
Sweaty palms or what
He gave me constant speed readouts, back round from an overshoot and got me down spot on.

If I may I might consider joining that. Do you use the MSN site or your own, and how do I find you?
Dan
Fs2002 only though. Can I use that?

Dan, you can find us at
www.hyperionairways.com.
; To answer your question, no. We do not fly on the Zone. We currently fly at eSkyWorld.com, which provides us live air traffic control services.
As for 2002, yes. In fact, our airline was based around FS2k2, and we branched out into FS9 when it was released last summer.

Along the same lines as terbert said, i also love to fly with a friend of mine, but we use Ventrilo, which is an alternative to Roger Wilco(which i used for the longest time) or teamspeak or paltalk. Just another voice comms freeware that is worth trying if the others aren't to your liking.

Hi
Thanks for that, Goose
I expect most voice progs are about the same, but will also try your types. I have
made contact with Flyin via the private messages, and he now joins me and a friend on multiplayer and we are nursing him through
We also use FsHost, and whilst we two from the UK were connected with Flyin from the USA, and flying around Nashville, another plane appeared on our screens. Some chap from Hungary!!! So a real Multi-national Fly-in
