I was wondering whether this would be a good idea..... What does your system score in 3DMark03? Remember to post your system stats too.....

I'd post mine, but buy the time I get the 178mb download of 3dmark '03 on my dialup, we could all be dead!

anyway it's always around 12,000 in 3dmark 2001 at stock clocking and blended driver settings at 1024x768x32 res, antialiasing off. Driver: Detonator 43.51 (an oldy but a goodie)(the latest driver scores only 10,000 on my rig!)

xp2600+ on nForce2 chipset, 1024mb PC2700 (faster than 3200 on this machine) GF4 TI4200 128mb, 8x AGP

...

...Mainboard: Asus P5K-Premium, CPU=Intel E6850 @ x8x450fsb 3.6ghz, RAM: 4gb PC8500 Team Dark, Video: NV8800GT, HDD: 2x1Tb Samsung F3 RAID-0 + 1Tb F3, PSU: Antec 550 Basiq, OS: Win7x64, Display: 24" WS LCD

I have downloaded 3DMark01 but when I run it it complains about not having DirectX8. Can't it run with DirectX9?

So is 1208 a decent score? And what would you expect from the specs below?

2019 in 3D Mark 2003 , 8700 average in 2001 SE !  - No different from my old p4 1.8, 400fsb mobo etc..... ???

My benchmark scores tell me I need a new Graphics card, my "real world" use, tells me something quite different - the two machines are world apart, despite an almost exact same score.

I remain to be convinced!

Paul.

No it hasn't.... They gave an estimate about a fortnight ago that it would come on monday or tuesday but when we rang them on wednesday they said they were having a slight problem. (eeek!) They said then it would come towards the end of this week.  So its anyones guess.....

The question is, what do I write o my sig now?

Absolutely not!

I have to agree with you! I thought the whole Idea of a benchmark was to have exactly the same settings for the things that effect the test so you could compare computers at there core performance level. What is the point if its not a fair test?

Yes, its absolute pap this benchmarking!

My benchmark is this, before, FS2002 maxxed & 8x AA with 8XAF (Purely for screenshots!) about 9fps over cities at a max! I now can get 18 > 20 fps!

3D Mark would have you believe my old pc was exactly as good as my new one, it isn't.

What, ultimately, is the point of such an obviously crap "benchmark" !!!

My remedy is to remove the damn thing and get back to silly fps figures and stutter free gaming.

(Don't mention CFS3!  Roll Eyes )

Paul.

P.S. You not got your's yet Bird?

Other side of the pond mate! In Britain we only need one warehouse!

I don't really mind when it comes as long as it works when it comes! They had to completely build it from scratch as you can choose every single bit thats in it! So thats why it takes so long!

Glad you finally saw some increase in benchmark performance! What was wrong?

Are you brave enough to give us your 3dMark03 score?

It's interesting to see your new benchmark Paul. It's almost identical to my rig with a slight overclock. And that corresponds to the 5600 being a little faster than the TI4200 as well,  we both have more CPU power than Graphics power.

I wouldn't score well in the 2003 benchmark because the TI4200 would score 0 in the DX9 tests. (the dx9 tests wont run at all on a dx8 card).

I managed to install the new Cat drivers and redid the benchmark this time with 2x AA and 2xAF. This time I got a better score:

3D Mark03 score: 5111

Settings:
Driver 4.1 Catalyst
2x Antialiasing
2x Antrioscopic Filtering

The proof of the pudding will be in the eating but I can't get off the ground with the keyboard! Need to get a new joystick!

My highest so far was 2660.  My specs below.

a) How on earth can you score 6050 with those specs?
b) How do you add a JPG as you've done?

Hi deadnight, can I ask under what conditions you benchmarked with? AA AF etc. And is your system overclocked/tweaked?

Im asking because I think my system should get a higher score going on stats but I can only get 6359. I know there is little difference there but mine should be higher really!

Anyhoo, its way better then the 3000 score I got to begin with! (shocking!) Where can I go to find these 'tweaks'?.......

I shall get Adobe PFD installed so I can read futuremarks official benckmark setup settings for benchmarking!

Sure.

Well, to start I turned the slider in the driver settings all the way down to performance, no aa, no af or anything.

The video card is slightly overclocked to 480/890. I'm not pushing it to the max but it's enough to get imrpoved performance without putting my video card into too much danger.

I also did some tweaks a while back that where posted in the forum at guru3d.com. I don't remember how to find them though. But what they did was make it so my computer uses RAM instead of writing page files to the hard drive. It just involved editing some registry entries.

Other than that I havn't really tweaked anything else. I must have gotten lucky and got everything setup good from the start. I could probably tweak the RAM timing a bit but I'm not going to bother with it. It's just some good hardware.

The ram is running in dual channel which makes a dramatic difference. I don't remember seeing if you posted your system specs or not but dual channel ram is very helpful. Your motherboard needs to support it though. Like I said I don't know what your system is.

Good luck!

I may have a look at some tweaks. I just wanted to check yours was! But still my system should win!

Oh, I didn't notice it. It's slightly better than mine so you should be getting a better score.

Is your RAM 2 seperate chips? I'm guessing it is.

To run in dual channel the ram has to be in the correct slots. Either put both chips in the blue slots or both chips in the black slots. Not one in blue and one in black.
That should run it in dual channel. It mentions this somewhere in the manual too.

I'm not familiar with ATI cards so I can't comment much on that. That IS one of their most newest ones isn't it? If so then it's definatly better than my Nividia card. The nvidia FX cards choke on the dx9 test. Actually I'm going to end up having to get a new video card once dx9 games become more widly used.  It's not exactly Nvidia's fault though, ATI and Nvidia both made their own gpu structure but ATI finished first.. so Microsoft created dx9 around the newer ATI cards.  Both cards process dx9 information differently but because of this the nvidia fx cards have to do alot of different things to make the code compatible with their cards. That slows the cards down for dx9 stuff. It really sucks.

Well, good luck.  I can't really give much help since I hardly know what I'm doing. hehe. I just went through websites that had system tweaks and used the tweaks that sounded good. Guru3d.com and anandtech.com are good places to look at.

OK, downloaded the program great, without buying it...

After install I viewed the demo...with great results, but when I go to run the tests it will play the wings of fury video with frames between 120-250, but when it goes into the next set of videos/whatever it drops down to 3-10FPS.....

Do I have to purchase this program to get true realistic results? Or am I doing somethign wrong?

Are you sure, because running the demo everything runs great while also playing the audio portion of it...???

It just doesn't make sense that one way would work, and the other wouldn't... Wink
