Just heard that my old mate Ray Davies of the Kinks was shot by a mugger in New Orleans. Seems it's not too serious thank goodness.

PS. Not exactly a mate but I did meet him & the guys once before they hit the big time. We played on the same bill at a big society do. I always liked the Kinks. It's a small world. His manager Deke Arlon used to sing in a local club with his group The Tremors in the old days.

Shocking Sad. I hope Ray makes a swift recovery. I used to work with his niece. And I am also a Kinks fan Smiley

I'm sure he'll be OK. Probably write a song about it. Wink

I did know Ray. He used to be a customer at my store. When he 1st came in he was with a girl I got to know over a period of about 6 months. I (being an immature 26 year old) thought he was just some kind of hanger on. One day he came in on his own & tried to pay for something with his cash withdrawal card (back in the days when they were separate) & I refused him .. only agreeing to the purchase on the basis that he would come back (as I knew his girlfriend) .. Later I found out who he was when one day some guys came in, spotted him & started raving on how 'Hey - it's Ray Davies ... RAY DAVIES ..' & chased him out of the store.
He is a very down to earth, considerate & humble guy. I got to know him over a period of about 2 years as he came in about 1/3 times every week. He even came to consult me once when doing  a radio interview in a restaurant accross the road! Unfortunately I let him down & couldn't answer the question - about an actor in a 40's film ...  Sad

I met a pile of other celebrities too  Cheesy
