The tail
IS
missing something!
No offense, ysteinbuch, but your pic has a different paint scheme than the one in your shots! ???

That is the newest livery.  The one on your 717s is the older one.  Look closer- you'll notice a difference. Grin
You'll find that this livery is like your pics and that FrontierGuy is right.

BTW- FANTASTIC shots, as always!

The thrust reverse on 747s is done differently than on the DC-9/MD-80?BizJEts/717. With them, the thrust goes up to full and 'buckets' pop up to re-route it forward.
On the 747, a similar thing happens- but no buckets.  The thrust is re-routed by the rear part of the nacelle that slides back.

As far as keys go, it's F2.

From a quick look, the 717 seems to use clam shell/ bucket type reversers. There is said to be a difference between them two, but that's beyond me  Smiley

The 747 has cascade type reversers. Also known as Cold stream reversers. Because of the high bypass air ratio and the low ground clearance, it would be very impractical to use clamshells on the "jumbo". Blocker doors pops up, changing the air direction. As this happens, the rear engine cowling moves backwards and cascade vanes vectors the airflow forward.

If you wanna see cool reversers, check out the CFM engines on the A320 Wink

Edit: AND, the RR equipped A330/340!
