First I aint complaining! There is nothing more exilarating than the sound of a loud jet. that brings me to my question.
Monday I took my oldest son to Syracuse-Hancock Airport. He left on a NWA DC9-50. This plane, with out a doubt, had NO hush kit and was not even close to having stage three engines on it.(the "quite" ones) I was under the impression that all aircraft in the US were suppose to be "quite" by a certian date or removed from service.

No hard rules have been implemented nationwide yet. Many airports have "stage" restrictions though. I guarantee that you won't hear any loud aircraft at Teterboro. What they do at airports like TEB is install measuring devices at the end of the runway, or in the case of TEB, near the hospital as well. If the thing "pegs" the bell more than twice, you get a letter. In fact, when you get a letter and the chief pilot calls us upstairs, he will say "you rang the bell at Teterboro!". The fines are minimal at this point and even at some "noise sensitive" airports, operators are finding it cheaper to pay the fine, than modify their aircraft.
.....so I loaded up the plane and moved to Middle-EEEE..........OIL..that is......

The whole noise issue is rather funny at Reno/Tahoe IAP in Nevada. While I was living there that NVANG was always the target for noise because of the RF-4C. One of the worst complaners was a former NVANG pilot (at least that what I was told) That bought a house right under the flight path for 16R. It is his claim, that because of all his complaining, the NVANG retired the RF-4 and swithed to the C-130. (not true of course)
Almost every pilot that flys into KRNO knows where this guy lives, and they use that in a big way. Last few days of the F-4 the pilots would go vertical over his house. He still complains about the C-130s. Oh well, not everybody is as perfect as us that love a good, loud JT8D-9 turbojet

its the usual case, person buys a house after a flight path is there and they think its their right to complain even thought they knew it was already there

Our former parts manager was ridiculed within the company when he was quoted in the local paper in an article condemning the airport and all of it's noise. He was on the side of the annoyed angry citizens. Talk about being a hypocrite. The guy buys a house next to the airport, gets a job at the airport and establishes himself in the upper ranks of a career supported solely by aviation, and then complains about the airport? ! ?

I think the loudest jets I ever heard (and I've heard lots) were the Air Force F106s. While in the USAF I worked on the EOR (End of Runway) crew......we were stationed down at the runway ends, and would do quick-checks of all assigned aircraft just prior to takeoff.
When the F106's came down, they would taxi onto the runway and do an engine runup....about 20-30 seconds of a most deafening roar. Suddenly the engine would cut back to an almost silence for about 3 seconds, and then....a thunderous KABOOOOOOMMMM as they started their takeoff roll. Even with double ear protection (earplugs plus headset) the noise was uncomfortable near a 100 yard radius!

The back told readers that if they didn't like the sound of tactical fighters they could write to:

Needless to say I was a "little" militant in those days.

Ah...The F-106. You are very correct. I was stationed at Minot AFB during the last year of the 5FIS F-106's. It seems that they always liked to go in pairs and was always cool to watch. The last time I saw on of those was at Tyndel AFB and you know what was going to happen with those birds

Depends on the aircraft...
What's so funny in holland:
everyone is always complaining about aircraft noise around schiphol, except when the Connie (which is louder than most of the usual traffic) is flying around
In the past everyone was complaining about the KLu F-104's going supersonic all the time, but they never made that illegal, while the current F-16's arent allowed to go supersonic anymore.
