I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I don't really find punk drummers to be quite that great, sure they can play fast, but really fast kick-snare+symble is kinda repetitive for me, ( repetitive refering to hearing the same drumming in many punk bands) I personally like Lars Ulrich of Metallica, on top of being a good drummer, I believe he writes quite a bit of Metallica's music if I remember correctly...

I don't know much about Punk music except that I never really liked it. I think the meaning has changed since the original Punk culture. Even then, there was a big difference between British & US punk bands. The British Punk music reminded me of the old days of skiffle when the skill was somewhat lacking. I don't think there was such a thing as a good Punk musician in those days. The whole idea behind the culture was their lack of musical knowledge or skill.

Mine has to be Keith Moon from "The Who"....
...!
His manic expression staring straight at the camera, wearing his stripey Tank Top and sweating like a pig, is something that sticks in my memory....
...!
Oh...
And my now grown-up Sons have just reminded me of Cozy Powell. They would practice his style of drumming on anything to hand, which generally toasted most of my furniture at the time...
...!
LOL...!
Cheers all...

Paul.

I can't see how anyone can say Neal Peart isn't the best. No offense to those who think so, but in my opinion, especially when trying to play their music on the drums, it is, by far the most difficult I have ever tried. I heard that Rush is doing a tour this year. . . I want to see them sooooooooooooooo bad, just because of Neal Peart.

Drummers come & go. The standard of drumming is better now than it has ever been. IMHO
As for the best drummer I've ever seen, I've never forgotten watching the legendary Gene Krupa in a clip of an old black & white film of the Benny Goodman orchestra. I forget the title of the film but it shouldn't be hard to find. To say he was an outstanding musician & drummer is an understatement. I would have loved to have had the opportunity to see him live.

Well people have said that!! I think he is great also!
Yes they are going on a 30 yr anniversary tour this year.
That is if Alex can keep his ass out of jail after beating on the cops!!
And Hagar Gene Krupa is awesome! A little before my time but KISS being "my" band since '73 I always admired Peter Criss and I also like learning about what influanced bands/members and Gene Krupa was Peter's "idol" so I had to check him out, and needless to say even though the music wasn't my cup of tea the drumming ability blew me away!!!! If you listen to Peter you can hear a little Krupa in his playing style! Peter Criss was also the one who first got me to check out Frank Sinatra, his singing "idol".

I don't know much about KISS at all. From what you're saying they would appeal to me. Krupa & Sinatra are 2 of my all-time favourites.
I also love the old big band jazz. Benny Goodman & his original orchestra featuring Krupa & Lionel Hampton is another of my favourites. Although he became more famous for his incredible vibes playing Hampton wasn't a bad drummer himself.

This is awesome! I've been playing drums for 25 years. My last gig was a year ago. After 5 years with a 80s Rock/Dance band, I finally had enough of the clubs, bars, private parties, and called it quits. After reading some of these post, I can tell some of you are young. It very refreshing to hear some of the old drummers names being talked about by you. Has anyone ever heard of Buddy Rich? LOL! Amazing! One of my favorites. It's very hard to pick a favorite of all time. The drummer that had the most influence on me has to be Neil Peart of RUSH. (thats pronounced PEART as in ear not PERT). These days there are so many great drummers out there making amazing noise. Most of them with great style and speed. Everyone who is learning about drumming should listen to all types of drummers from Speed Metal to Pokas. Every drummer has something to offer you can learn from! Just because you dont LIKE country music, don't assume the drummer sucks. They are working pros and making a living. I really didn't like playing Prince songs but I can tell you, If my band was trying to play our favorite RUSH song, we wouldn't be working. And there is nothing like playing for 4000 people who want to see you! What a RUSH!...............Rock ON! Don 8)
