I thought id make a little topic so that anyone who wants can make suggestions, comments or requests as I go along.

I have just finnished the basic groundwork polygons and am just about to start on the custom objects in EOD to give it some shape.

Edit: Updated Pictures, got rid of the taxiway roads and added macros (Untextured)

Edit2: Replaced pictures with updated ones, a couple with custom textures and more added including the old terminal bulding.

Well done Bird man. I have no suggestions other than carry on as you are. You seem to be doing just fine without my interference, not that I could help anyway. I think your hard work deserves a little encouragement which is the reason for this reply. Wink

PS. Just be careful not to exceed the forum image limit. Nothing to do with me but it would be a shame to see any removed.

Thanks Hagar, Laying down the ground stuff was the easy bit! Now Im doing the easiest macros to start with and going on to the harder one's!!!

I think doing the Textures is going to be the hardest bit so I just left them this green colour so I can see it all taking shape. Do you know of a tutorial on how to make textures? I haven't tried experimenting with anything yet but a tutorial would make things much easier! I guess the only way to see is to jump in the deep end and try.....

That's the method I've always used. You will already know the basic texture sizes & formats to use. I find that photos of buildings come in handy for scenery object textures, either off the web or take your own. Good luck.  Wink

looking good so far:)
LOL just to really have fun try figuring where the extended runways going:) and the new terminal, the runway either goes off that drop which would mean a good downhill burst of speed, or they gotta bury the road lol sure this is giving you enough headaches as it is:)
keep up the good work looking forward to seeing the finished product

Well knowing the runway at bristol they wont bother flattening it!!!!

- I think it'll be a few years before they do anything wont it? They'll need a public inquiry huge protest's etc so ill think well be able to see exactly where everything is going to go when the plans are made public. Which will be great cause I will finally be able to see what the airport really looks like with some decent ariel views which will be shown on the news.

It sure is, Im leaving the mesh till last. I can't seem to find a program which will work - and none of the programs come with anysort of tutorial/Help file! Dont be surprised if there isn't any mesh around but I will certainly get rid of the great big spit of land going out for about 5 miles in FS! Perhaps Hagar will know whether its possible to create a simple mesh with FSSC?

Do you think that the walkway in front of the terminal needs to be bigger? Looks a bit piddly to me at the moment!

I think before I do any more buildings I shall have a go.

Hi Bird man. I assume you're using EOD. It's been a while & I forget the recommended texture size & format - FS textures are usually standard sizes & square, 256 x 256, 512 x 512 etc. You might be able to use larger hi-res textures in an FS Extended BMP format rather than 8 bit. Let me know if this helps. If you have any problems I'm sure we can figure it out. Wink

I'm sure this is not possible. As you already know, there are special utilities for creating terrain mesh. I always found Martin Wright's stuff easier to use than most. If you haven't done so it might be worth trying his FSTerrain 2002. http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/programs/fstrn.htm
RollerBall knows far more about this than me.

hi Bird, this runway argument has had pleanty of hearings and meetings, and as usual its always the people who have only just moved to the area that complain the most. Same goes for the noise, which as you know isnt that bad anyway, but ah well, the runway will be built in the end, but could be at least 5 years before work begins though.

Does that look anything like the old terminal CraigL? The Pictures I have show a mangle of buildings (which is probably what its like in realife!) and it was impossible to work it out, so I did my best!

I did some custom textures!!! It actually worked!!! One of them came out a bit pink so Ill have to redo it. I have to say that Paint shop pro is amazing!

Im beginning to churn macros out quite quickly now, just a few more main ones to do and Im done (unless there are any absolute screamers which Ive missed), I dont want to do too many more as it may begin to slow the FPS rate, but I flew over it in a Shorts 360 ( Wink) and it never went below 23 (locked at 25 - no AI) even if I flew close to the buildings so thats good.

Well - back to EOD I go!

Good Idea, it would be great if you could....

...

This is what I'm going on, I thought the red beam indicated another floor. Ill leave it as it is now and as you say update it if needs be. Theres that funny little control tower to the left in the picture which needs doing.

the old terminal is somethign that i cant help to well with, it has been a very long time since i have been in there, infact it was at least 6 months before it was closed, and problem is when i was working there, alot of the time was spent indoors and you cant see much in the way of the airfield from the dining area. And when it was my lessons, i was to busy concentrating on taxing and take off to be able to get much info of the buildings, next time i will le instructor to taxi, so i can get an up close picture of the airfield

It's up to you Craig but I wouldn't even think of taking a camera with me on a flying lesson. It's a really nice offer but I'm sure Bird man will appreciate that you should be concentrating on one thing only. What the instructor is telling you. Not possible to do that & take photos at the same time. IMHO
