Our landlord goes crazy with the decorations, he starts before Thanksgiving and adds on all the way up to Christmas, we live in the upstairs apartment of the front house and our landlord lives in the back house, it looks pretty cool though, lots of blinking and chasers, one picture is with flash which caused the falling snow to create a cool effect and the other is without flash.

Anyone else have a decked out Christmas crib?

Lovely shots Paz, the blizzard is due to hit us in the next couple of days, and nope the locals don't cover their houses in lights Sad
However on the Christmas tree front we're mad!!!

Nice!!
Reminds me of home in Michigan!!
Here in TN, you'll have a foot of snow one day and 80* and sun the next.
But how much does your rent go up for the holidays?Smiley

Southwest Michigan to be exact! We got about 6 inches of snow the last couple of days, but Monday they are saying temps in the 40's and rain, but then changing to snow again by Wednesday, so a white Christmas is still questionable.

Fortunately all the decorations come free of charge.

Blimey Paz...!
If any of the houses in our street were decked out in (Christmas?) Fairy Lights like that, the rest of us would call for a reduction in our rates... Angry...!
It would certainly reduce the value of our properties... Roll Eyes...!
..does "Chevvy Chase's Christmas Lampoon" ring a bell... Wink...!
Many people over here run the risk of contravening the "Light Pollution" laws, resulting in restraints being applied by our local Councils!
...Thank goodness... Wink...!

Cheers... Grin...!
Paul.

Grand Rapids?
I lived there for a few years, from Saginaw.
I tried explaining to people here in the South about "lake effect" snow and how you can see grass one minute and the next you have four feet of snow! I miss it!
I think we should adopt a "light pollution law" here.
Pigeon Forge, TN (known because of Dolly Parton) puts up millions upon millions of lights every year which in turn cost the people who live here a major increase in their electric bill!!! All for the tourist, of which I never see any of thier money!
For example my electric bill alone went from $98 to $310 and will stay that way until March. But the county government still thinks we are dumb and tell us the increase has nothing to do with the X-mas lights. But only when they are  on the bill goes up! You figure it out.

I'm actually about 70 miles southwest of Grand Rapids, only about 15 miles north of the Indiana border, as a matter of fact I work in Elkhart Indiana.

Nice photos Paz. We don't go in for decorating the outsides of our homes so much here in the UK. As Fozzer points out it is becoming more popular with some people. Some are so outlandish & garish that the neighbours object. In one example a lady had Santa kidnapped from outside her front door under the cover of darkness. The ransom note demanded the removal of all decorations before his safe return. A lock of his beard & a sample of material cut from his red jacket were sent with the note to prove it was genuine. The police are involved & the whole thing is turning into a wonderful & typically British farce - like something out of the Pink Panther. I love it. Grin

Only Scrooge would compain about Christmas lights. They dont stay up except maybe a month or so out of the year.

Nice thing about living in the city of St louis Missouri is a lot of people decorate their houses here.  I live in an area of the city called the Gingerbreads. I will have to take a pic soon, but all the houses look like gingerbread houses in shape (not covered in gumdrops and creme mind you lol) The only thing I dont like is that everyone parks on the street in essence detracting from the uniqueness of the area.

great shots Paz!!! Glad to see your landlord is festive!!! its a dieing breed of person that wants to share in the holidays!

Just call me Ebenezer. Tongue

Fozzer has a point. It's the culture difference again. You guys across the puddle seem to like this sort of thing but we never had it so we're not used to it. Some homes are so close together that bright lights flashing all night can be annoying & a real nuisance. I think having them up for a whole month would be considered beyond a joke. Sorry but I suppose it's a case of "When in Rome". Wink
