???

Is there a program that will shut down all non-essential computer processes to maximise the computing power available whilst running FS2004?

???

Richard, If you go to "Start", then to "Run" and type in MSconfig and hit okay a box pops up with a startup tab in it. A list of stuff comes up that shows what gets turned on at startup. You can remove check marks of things you don't need to be running. What I might recomend first however is to go to a site called "Kim Kammando. Com" She is a ladie computer talk show host and has a very nice site full of all kinds of info on the Msconfig thing. I've never bothered with this and so I'm not sure what you can get away with.

Hi Richard,

I use a program called enditall. One click of a button shuts down all non essential programs and you can also select which programs to remain running.

I use it before running flight sims to get the most out of the systems resources.

The good points are it's free http://home.ptd.net/~don5408/toolbox/enditall/ and once you reboot the computer all the programs that were shut down will be up and running again unlike using msconfig and unless you know what you are doing you could cause problems with your system.

That's the one, Havoc! Enditall is a great way of freeing up system resources. I usually do it manually but it is a great program.

For pre-XP, I just shut down everything via msconfig in Start Up. You only need three, some say two running. They are Explorer, Sys Tray and Sys. Manager ( I believe).

For XP, the problem there is all the Processes running in the background. You can shut down programs in Start Up and still have tons of Processes running "Behind the Scenes". I found two programs that shut down many of the non essential processes. One program is called XPAntispy and the other is called Startup Manager.

XPAntispy you can download from my site. It's on the second page of the CFS2 Tweaking guide.

Startup Manager from here: http://www.wheresjames.com

Both easy to use and free.
