Hi, G.A. and Commercial pilots... 8)...!

For the first time in since becoming a member, many moons ago, I popped over to the CFS 3 Forum yesterday just out of curiosity... ...!
Now the CFS games are all to do with shooting, bombing, and blasting the c**p out of anything that moves, including your mates, so after reading this thread* involving a fair bit of "nastiness", I quickly came to the conclusion that it seems to envoke quite a lot of aggression amongst the various players....
So for me, it's back to good-old FS 2002/2004 for some quiet, stress-free flying.... ...!

Some people especially teens it seems go out and try to do stupid things they've seen in movies or TV.  I guess computer games could get people fired up too.  I let my four year old play "Doom" and now he talks about shooting and stuff.  I also enjoy getting away from the combat flight sims and just poke holes in the sky in civilian type aircraft.

The reverse may be true also in that some good combat may be a way to let out your aggression...?

My hats off to you ROMULUS111VADT and to all the REST of you who have served in Peace and War.
Now back to the Question....I don't think fighting games OR violence on movie screens or TV does affect you, UNLESS you have had no FAMILY VALUES instilled in you. Quality family time is the most important time, dinner, supper whatever you wish to call it is where my parents conversed with us.  We all left the table to-gether after eating.

I remember playing 'Cowbays and Indians' and also re-enacting every episode of 'Combat' (with Vic Morrow) with my brothers and mates.

I didn't grow up to become a gun toting, crazy who shoot's up McDonalds Restaurants or High Schools.

The truely disturbed will always find a way to cause their mayhem, and the Media will always find a scapegoat to pin the blame for it on.

As Trucker said, I'm more inclined to think that, more often than not, poor upbringing is responsible for the violence in our world (that or mental illness).  

It might seem that I'm contradicting myself here (it wouldn't be the first time). I have seen some games that seem popular with the young that I consider would have some effect on their outlook & encourage mindless & gratuitous violence. In my experience being exposed to anything for long enough makes it acceptable as "normal" behaviour. This is true whether it be good, relatively harmless or extremely offensive. I could be wrong but I wouldn't wish my own children to go anywhere near one of these games. Although I'm against censorship the same applies to some films & even pop songs. In my day pop songs were about love or at least lust. What happened to flower power & "Make Love Not War"? There seems to be a worrying culture of gratuitous violence & mindless vandalism in our modern society. This is happening so often that nobody seems surprised or shocked by it any more. In other words, we're inured to it so it's become acceptable. Instead of tackling the root cause we simply put up with it as inevitable. Nobody in authority seems to worry too much about this or investigate the causes. I often wonder where it will all end.

Having already stated my own view that CFS & similar "games" are not a bad influence on anyone in any shape or form I could be completely wrong about the other things too. Somehow I don't think so.

PS. I feel that it's dangerous to lump everything into a single category. This is the mistake the politicians, authorities & so-called "experts" make all too often.

 I've been playing video games ever since the original Pong was the greatest thing available and I have never felt as though any type of game has ever influenced my actions in real life, and I have played every type of game you can imagine, fighting games do not make me violent, war games do not make me want to join the army, sports games do not make me want to play sports, driving/racing games do not make me want to drive fast or crazy, hunting games do not make me want to go kill real animals.
 The only possible exception might be Fishing games, which sometimes can give me the urge to go fishing, in real life I release what I catch 95% of the time, I might keep a salmon or steelhead or two per year because I love salmon steaks, I also love to eat walleye, so those too are keepers.


 Overall, I have never considered video games to be anything more than what they are meant to be...entertainment...or a hobby, this goes the same with movies and TV shows.
Anyone who lets these forms of entertainment influence their real-life actions or attitudes must have very weak minds to begin with and should seek professional help.

They can affect you of course,.............but only if you let them.
