Hi, many off you guys seem te be huge fans of the flightsim ( or no nodes) website. But it seems almost impossible to enter that site, so i wonder what the fuss is all about. Do they have a lot of planes you can't find elsewhere?

Which sites do you guys prefer to download?

I like Simviation (off-course!), Avsim and perfect flight ( www.fs2000.org). Are there any good others around,

Thx

Hi Omag

I guess it depends on what you are interested in. My main interest is military aviation. I took the view that flightsim was (by a small margin over this site) the best place for military downloads. I have first class membership - so no delays!  Cheesy

As you say, avsim is a good site also, although it tends to have more of a civil aviation bias.

Sim-outhouse is a site that I like. Not a huge number of downloads there, and a WW2 bias. But I think that the forum is second only to the ones here.

Cheers Paul

Omag, I was considering too, the membership to flightsim.com, however between here at simviation, avsim, and a couple others I cannot think of off hand, I find plenty of downloads. (I like avsim because, for the most part,  they have large pictures of what you are downloading)

When I have to pay for freeware from a site then I dont tend to go to that site regardless of the content they offer when there are plenty of sites that offer the same, albeit maybe fewer downloads for free.

I know it gets costly for these type of sites to run, so I am not against charging for no nodes fast downloads  sites, they just are not for me

In regards to forums, simviation is where I call home. Great people here too

I find that either Simviation, Avsim, or Flightsim usually have what I want Wink

I rarely download from other sites

Unless I am looking for something specific that is not offered here, I only use SimV. I like the structure of this site and have become so accustomed to it that going anywhere else just seems a waste of time anymore. As for the forums, well why go anywhere but the best. The content here is great and the people here are by far the best.

A happy SimV nut,

Kevin

I only visit other sites for stuff I can't get here at SimV. Unfortunately, although this is one of the biggest sites of its kind, many freeware authors still seem unaware of its existence. The first place they think of to upload their work is either Flightsim.com or Avsim. In my first year as CFS Editor I spent much of my time checking out every freeware site I could find for new files. Then testing them before mailing the authors to make them aware of our site & asking permission to post their files. Many of these became good friends & from that time onwards they uploaded their files here first.

Trends change & many developers now prefer to post their files either on their own site or at one location. I can understand this & respect their wishes as it enables them to have some sort of control over updates etc & also support their stuff properly.

One big difference I have noticed between SimV & other big sites is that the majority of files posted here are tested before being posted. Although new talent is always encouraged not every file uploaded here is necessarily posted.

PS. This has always been Pete's policy & the reason behind his success. It's also the reason I have remained loyal to SimV since I found it almost 5 years ago.

Yeah, i still think that this is the best site around, but at Avsim it's easier to find an old file due to there database.

I know Pete gets the best out of things here without going over to a complex and time devouring database, ( as i read in the site forums), so no critisism here  Wink

I just wondered if there were several great sites, but i guess i knew them already.
