It is sad, and my thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of the pilots.
It seems to be the same for all countries, incedents like this happen all the time during practice or manuvers and not in combat.

the BAF uses the F-16 (A and B models) for 25 years now and we lost 35 of them in crashes (not a single one in real combat ops)

I have the NovaLogic F16 MRF Sim (which is pretty good, for a cartoony type sim). Anyway, I recall from the introductory video and speel, that Lockheed Martin say there have been something in the order of 70 odd kills by the F16, as opposed to zero losses.

So if this is true (or still the case, as I don't know how old the info would be on the sim), there have been no losses of F16's other than through accident.

I know the USAF has about 1600 of them, so add the rest of the worlds Air Forces that use them, and I think there are quite a few of them around (considering they are 'Multi Role' and are about half the price of an F15 Eagle)

I've always thought taht the RAAF should have given the FA18's a miss and gone for the F16, but they told me to mind my own business. Itried to tell them, as a taxpayer, it was my business, but they just threw me out of the building!!   Grin Grin Grin Grin Wink

Very sad news. I hope they don't have to contribute it to pilot error. I hate it when that turns out to be the cause.  Sad Cry

sad loss
But i must say, i am sure i have heard of quite a few incidents with the F-16's that have been caused by close formation or close fly passes. Maybe its the  fact its such an unstable aircraft thats causing these things to happen, i mean even the smallest maneuver would mean quite a change in altitude and or direction, and with inexperienced that could be the main factor. Then again maybe i am wrong and its just really bad luck on the part of the F16

if this is true, wow, those Thunderbirds are damn good pilot!  Wink

Sad but true it will probably be called "Pilot error" just because Governments don't like to admit there might be something wrong with some of the equipment that is used.
It is so much easier to put blame on a human than telling taxpayers that "We are spending your money on stuff we know has problems".
This holds true for anything not just aircraft.

if it was just one country then maybe plane error could be blamed. But its been a few countrys including the US so unless no-one has checked the planes gota be pilot error in there somewhere.
As for the thunderbird pilots, they are not standard pilots remember, prob the best of the best

most likely pilot error in this case. the planes crashed head on so there weren't any technical failures.
