There's a FS2002/FS2004 Fieseler Fi-156C Storch over at flightsim. Filename is 'fi156_fs.zip'. I'm guessing this is it Wink

Hi Andrew...!
I am also guessing that you blokes over your side of the Pond have more luck in getting into Flightsim than we do over here.... Roll Eyes...!
I'ts just about impossible at any time....(All Nodes are Busy..)...all the time... Angry...!
Felix has offered to get me planes from the site, but that's not the point, For a "No1 Site for Flight Simmers", it has to be the very worst for getting into. (I have been registered with them for over 2 years now and still can't get in.... Angry...!
No probs with Simviation and Avsim... 8)...!

Doesn't it tell you somewhere in the Readme or AIR file? If you confirm which one & where you got it I'll investigate it for you.

paul, try www.sim-outhouse.com . the fieseler should be somewhere in the FS2k2 category.

doug,it's the file FI-156C_STORCH_fs.zip . the readme says something about a file called gaugesound.dll, but it isn't included in the zip.
i don't think that one single missing file from an aircraft can crash your entire FS...

Silent:
Sorry to hear you are having trouble with the Storch, I've been trying to remember where I got mine and I believe it was fsplanet. I have had no trouble with it at all, except for the flight crew looking out of place.  Hope you can get it working.

Blimey, it's 1:45 in the mornin' and I'm still fiddlin' around with the Storch...!
It works fine in FS 2002, and the Virtual Cockpit is Fantastic...
But...
It wont work in FS 2004.... Cry...!
As soon as you press "Fly now" the game re-sets back to the desktop....funny...?
(There doesn't seem to be anything un-usual in any of the Folders as far as I can see)...

The other strange thing, (in both programs), is that although alternative Textures are included, and the "Air File" points to them. they don't appear in the Aircraft selection menu, only the German Medical Service version.... Shocked...!

Very strange.... Roll Eyes...!
So, at the moment I am flying the "Medic" with FS 2002.... Grin...!
...and it's fine... 8)...!

Cheers Silent... Grin...!

Fozzer: sorry to hear that, both you and Silent are having problems with a file I'm not, good for me, bad for you. I had to say that, in the past I've always been the one running for help because a plane didn't work, it is nice to know others have problems too.  I just wish it weren't people I  know so well. There is one thing I can think of that might help, in the same file that FS9 config is located in, C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9 there is a file call Aircraft, the files are only place holders ,or something like that , they're empty, anyway try removing the  fi156 fs  folder,  then back in the game try the Storch again and see if it will fly. I had a similar problem about 3 months ago and it wasn't my OS. I have no idea why your textures are not working, unless you configured them wrong. That could also explain the the re-set back to the desktop.

I hope my ramblings helped  Fido

Paul.

Seems I shall have to download it after all. Roll Eyes
Not that I mind doing it but I really don't want it for myself. This might take a while.

Foz. The Aircraft.cfg should point to the textures, nothing to do with the AIR file. I have no idea what this is all about & the more information you give me the easier it is to suggest something. If it works OK in FS2002 I can only assume it's one of the older designs not fully compatible with FS9. But then - how come Fido has no trouble with it? As he says, he's usually the one with these problems. ???

PS. Sorry. I somehow missed this. Quote:

I reckon it's the culprit alright. I've come across gaugesound.dll before. Try adding this entry to FS9.cfg.

[OLDMODULES]
GaugeSound.dll=1

PPS. Update. I found GaugeSound.dll included with another aircraft. Here's what it says in the Readme.
To use gauges made with EasyGauge, a file GaugeSound.dll must be either in the windows\system32 directory or in the FS2002 main directory; it is in this zipfile.

If the file isn't included with the Storch you can download it with the FS2002 Piper Arrow-III, non-turbo. (Arrow-3b.zip) http://www.simviation.com/fs2002props49.htm
Note that it's installed to the main directory - not the MODULES folder. You probably know this already but for DLL files to display you might need to tweak the Windows Explorer folder options. Check the "Show hidden files & folders" option. http://www.simviation.com/lair/windows.htm

Tell me if that fixed it.

OK. Problem solved. I finally have Piglet's Storch. Here's what I found out.

I installed the aircraft & gauges to FS9 in my usual way. Despite being mentioned in the Readme, GaugeSound.dll is not included. I fired up FS9, selected the Storch & sure enough CTD.......! The PC also locked solid.
5 minutes later after the old 3 finger salute & inevitable Scandisk I tried again. This time I pasted GaugeSound.dll from a previous download into the FS9 main directory folder before firing up FS9. Voila......!

...

I didn't need to add the [OLDMODULES] entry to FS9.cfg.

The aircraft is configured as 2 separate models or types (Medivac/Liaison & Recon/Liaison) with a total of 6 options available from the Variation menu.

The things I do in the interests of science. LOL
Now I have it I will keep it. I forgot how much fun it is buzzing around in this amazing little plane. Wink
