For FS9:

Problem:

I just got my "Gainward FX Powerpack Geforce 4 Fx 5600Ultra/760 TV/DVI 128 mb ddr" last night and Im having some problems and I have a question

First of all, I got in my airplane and ahhhh this is my cockpit

...

Everything else works all right its just the 2d cockpit that doesn't show, not even the GPS or any other part. When you look left or right it works and the virtual cockpit is also ok any suggestions. Im using default Gainward Drivers.

Question 1:

I also have a quick question for those who happen to have this card, when I play FS9 with everything maxed out I get about 10-11 fps average. Is this the most or is it because I have SDRAm 133. If I upgrade my board and Ram (to AGP 8x [my board has only 4x] and Pc133 to DDR maybe DDR 400) will it make a difference.

what im thinking of getting is this http://pcclub.com/product_detail.cfm?itemno=A4830804

one more thing, for the people that have this card, what is your average FPS when you play, what are your settings and what does your comp have, Im just trying to see what I might be able to get from this card

thank you very much

Hi Beans
I too run an FX5600, only the Asus version.  Although I didn't get those problems, i heard of others who did.  As i recall they were fixed with latest nVIDIA drivers (53.03 NOT 52.16).  I have a powerfull PC, but if i max out all my card and FS9 settings, i still only get 10-15FPS so i comprimise.

As for your choice of motherboard, I love Gigabyte boards, but HATE with a vengance VIA chipsets. The VIA chipset would be may LAST choice.  Boards with the new Intel chipsets are cool. Asus do some good ones. Personally, i even prefer SiS chipsets over VIA. Sorry, just my experience.

Your RAM will most certainly be your bottleneck slowing things down.  How much of it?  If you can run that FX5600 at 8X with directX9, and two or four sticks of DDR 400Mhz in dual channel mode, your FPS will rise.

Interesting, I've got a VIA chipset (and a crap mobo!) FS9 seems happy, CFS3 certainly not!

My Asus 9560 is more than upto FS now I've ditched my Celeron!!!!

beans... where??? Oh yeah here they are!

Sorry for late response I've been trying to call up tech support all week. The guy is always busy and I think they only got one tech support guy, what a company? still no joy.

I have the 53.03 drivers, the Panel is working now but I get a lot of little dots flowting around in CFS3, FS9, Medal of Honor Breakthrough(which I can now run maxed out!!!), Max Payne and all other games I have. A wholoe bunch of random red dots show when I watch a video. heres a few screenshots

FLight sim 2004 not that bad
...

CFS3 Messed up screen
...
CFS3 dots
...

Medal of Honor Breakthrough (It looks a lot worse when you actully play)
...

I tried the Omega Drivers, the Nvid 53.03, and the default drive, along with Direct X 9 , 9A, and 9b still have the problem.(Man Those DX9's took me forever to dload)

I think I'll just try to call on monday, the guy isn't working today

And about the Gigabyte board, some people say you cannt really overclock it because a lot of things are locked, I'll see what I'll do, im patient... I have dail up

Now I go rest... stupid Flu  Sad

I've seen that with my card, but, when I've tried overclocking it quite too much! - i.e. its too hot!!

I'd be looking into cooling....

Try this, open your case, get a desktop fan, the larger the better, sit it as close to your open case as you can, turn it on full.
...
Run the same titles again.  Ensure everything is maxxed, anti alaising on etc etc to be absolutely sure your cards working hard & hot.

I'd hazzard a guess, everything will be peachy with the fan, and as it appears in your pictures without.

If you still have problems with the fan, I'd be suspecting a faulty card. Considering Gainward cards are slightly (and in some cases, considerably) overclocked,I'm 99% sure heats your enemy here.

Paul.

Just did the fan test and I still have the same problem, I sent a e-mail to gainward just waiting for their responce, I think I will need to replace my card. I think I'll call a few times on monday (because they don't work today) and see what I can do

I have horrible luck buying things everytime I buy something new for my comp, something goes wrong, Hadrive, Ram, video card Joystick, Case, Motherboard, the list goes on and on. Don't let me buy anything Grin, It probably wont work

Another culprit could well be a PSU thats not got enough wattage.....  350 should be ok, Shame the fan test did'nt help.....

I'm certainly suspecting the card, but thought I'd better mention the PSU.

Also, depending on how old your motherboard is, I'd look at the power output on its AGP slot, some early boards that pre dated the 8XAGP Geforce FX's etc don't supply enough juice to the AGP slot, some cards get around this by connecting directly to the PSU via a CD/HD power plug, onto the AGP card.
My Asus 9560 has'nt got this, and thankfully my nasty little Jetway mobo's AGP slot can drive the thing. A Hewlett Packard pIII 800 system I have under a box in my attic, won't work with my Geforce FX due to its APG slot having insufficient power, although the card displays my desktop etc, once D3D gets going, it crashes in a big way. It runs great with an ancient Voodoo3 AGP card though!

I got my video card friday, and it still didn't work. It was the 2nd and my moneyback guarantee was until the 4th (today). Unfortunately Gainward and Gameve.com took and extra holiday on friday (I don't believe they were celebrating Kwanza) and ups only worked m-f, so I thought I was stuck with a faulty video card forever.

But, I finnally figured it out, I went into my bios and loaded the fail safe setting and it worked like magic, who ho!!!! and I bought CFS2 and its coming soon Double WHo ho!!!

the card wasn't messed up at all it was my mobo

dam 13 bucks of shipping for nothing Tongue

thanks
