It's not the plane or sky you should be looking at in this pic. Its the ground scenery  Shocked!

I was exploring a website and I found this link to PC aviator direct, that offered ultra realistic looking Ground Textures for FS9!

I don't know if anyone is familiar with it, but it is called Mega Scenery USA 2004 from PC aviator direct. This is their link:

http://www.megascenery.com/title-lax.htm

Check out the video. It will have you thinking is this a really the game or a live video  Shocked! Then to prove it is the game they take you into the virtual cockpit and give you an outside veiw to show you that it indeed the game. They claim to use actual Satelite imagery to give the dramatic realism this program offers.

Their are many more pics for you to check out at the site! I think this makes as real as it gets an understatement. It can't get any more real unless they put your body in the plane and send you up!

The only bummer is this program comes in Volumes for certain areas of Fs9 and doesn't work on all the ground textures in the game. But who cares! The first Volume is LA and San Diego. If they come out with New York and Florida I will be happy. But they said they are doing all States!

p.s. : just took note the pic isn't coming out, don't know why I used the correct spelling and checked it twice and used capital letters for JPG and it won't come out, just check out the website for tons of pics anyhow! You will be impressed!

Its only in your mind, strong mind, strong soul and nobody can take that from you!

i wouldn't buy it,i'd rather wait for the release of V2 of the free relief textures for FS.

I subscribe to Computer Pilot/PC Aviator and all this stuff is in there.  Turn one green with envy to see all the add ons (Software and Hardware)  that are out on the market.  Course would cost an arm and a leg to have it.  Can you fly with one arm and one leg?  Almost worth it?  No?  I do love the mags tho'.  Dreams do come true!!!

The problem with the "megascenery" is you have to be at a substantial altitude to get the effect.
Also, if you fly out out the covered area, you are in for a bit of a jolting scenery change. Wink
I tried the demo but really didn`t like it.

As for the freeware "relief"  ground textures, they make the ground textures seem out of focus/out of place to me. The effect is way out of scale. Furrows in fields seem 10 feet deep even at high altitude, for example.
The "relief" autogen textures make the buildings look kind of primitive, hand drawn, rough textured even when they shouldn`t be.

Of course, they`re just my opinions and you are free to tell me I must be blind and should hand in my medical.  Grin

You would think that with Bill Gate's mindset that Microsoft would try to eliminate all competition when it comes to scenery in FS9?! ???

Very good shot and yes, that piece of work does look realistic. You must have some good OS to run FS2004 at full settings and have these great pictures, very nice indeed ! Smiley

I just can't wait for volume 3 of Megascenery, NORTHERN CALIFORNIA!  HOME BABY!!  Now my hometown will actually exist in the game!  MS kinda left it out.  Haha I want to see my house in flight sim!  8)  I don't think Megascenery is something you can truely appreciate unless you live in, or are extremely familiar with the area.

Silver1SWA,

Very well said ! I used to fly around my place in FlightSim, but all I see is the forest, although we have some tall buildings nearby, but they are left out, so therefore, there's no chance of seeing my house there either Roll Eyes Grin Well, you are going to be one lucky guy when you receive that package ! Sorry I have been away guys, New York just got hit with a monster blizzard and I have been at work and home sleeping since I posted this.

This is a payware addon scenery, Thats a screen shot I took from their website, though I still think my PC can handle that level of detail with ease. I had to share this with everyone when I saw it. It blew me away and when I saw the video at the site, I just said I have to get this! I can't wait until they make a NEW YORK version!

Has anyone actually gone to the website and seen the video and how detailed it looks. At one point it looks like a live video and not a game!  Shocked

Oh BTW Thank you Birdman for whatever it was you did to get my pic to come out!  Grin

Hey Silver and Joe D and Silent exploder

Joe D I know you got the demo, can you give me a little more insight of what you found to be wrong with it!

Silver are you using the current versions of Megascenery  Shocked How is it working out for you?

Silent Exploder I was on Avsim and was checking out that freeware scenery and wasn't too impressed with the way it looks. I saw an actual video of the scenery effect in action! It looks great and whats $40 bucks? I pay $130 for a moving violation Ticket here in NY. (THEY SAY NEW YORK is in a budget crisis)

I don't know about everyone elses opinion about Mega Scenery. But when I fly I usually stay in a specific area, I only went Intercontinental once (A flight from JFK New York to Chorlette Amalie in St.thomas (my homeland)) I sat for the whole 3 hour flight! My butt hurts!  Embarrassed So for me now I just like to pick certain areas to fly in and just go up and take a tour of the area! If Mega Scenery is going to make an area look ultra detailed I am there!

Yean I have tried the Southern California version, but I do not currently have it installed as my computer crashed about a month ago.  It works great.  Performance is if anything, a little better with Megascenery!  Many have reported that, and while I don't think it's a huge difference, I do agree, it runs just as well, if not SLIGHTLY smoother than the default mesh.  However, it is true you do have to be at a somewhat substantial altitude to get the true effect...but can't the same be said about the default mesh??

This is exactly why I cannot wait for the Northern California Megascenery release.  In adition to it being my "home", most of my flight simming consists of Southwest Airlines California and Nevada routes.  It is hard to deal with the transition visually from Megascenery to default as you leave the covered area, but it will be a lot better having both the departure and arrival areas covered for doing Nor Cal to So Cal routes or vice versa.

Thanks for the reply silver, I will definately look into investing california area. I do some flying in that area sometimes. I like the flight from SanFran to Los Angelos LAX Intl. I like flying around San Fran. I don't like the Default La area. Once you clear the mountains on approach to LAX its seems like all of California is a desert with the exceptions of a few airports all over the place.

Yeah the default LA area is very boring.  Since its such a heavily populated area, the default textures are so redundant that it just looks like some huge light brownish carpet layed across all of southern California.

Spot on with your comment - if I saw scenery for my area in Scotland I would be right in there - elsewhere, although I might admire, I would not buy.

I do not have any hang ups on paying for good s/ware products - its just that there are soooooo many and one has to curtail it.

Megascenery doesn't really have any hit on the framerates.  It's a very easy going addon.  All that you are seeing is a redone ground texture.  The cpu usage is really minimum, in fact when you install it turns the texture settings down as it's not a really consuming texture.

PC Aviator just announced a release date of January 4, for MegaScenery 2 : New York! At first the title alone made me want to go out and buy it! But the screenshots weren't as impressive and the LA and Sandieago area. Simply put it looks like the default scenery with little or no real improvements. I will have to see if they release a video click of the New york area in use before I go buy this.

it's just like silver said

You can't apreciate Mega Scenery unless you live in the particular area it is created for. That is why I am outraged at MegaScenery 2: New York. I posted some screen shots in a thread and from what you can see, they very much suck and this is coming from someone who lives in New York.

I thought this thing is suppose to have extreme detail. How extreme can this be and you can't even see the FDR or Harlem river drive in manhattan. They don't even have the Projects that make up New York. Hell the Tower at LaGuardia is Missing! I don't think MSNY is going to be landing anywhere on my PC.

Know what ya mean Mav, but im afraid that there's just only so much that can be done in a $50 flight simulator in a $1200 computer, heck even a $5000 machine.
The only way to get the sheer amount of scenery that New York has is in one of those 12milion dollar simulators that the airlines & the airforce have.

But well yeah jeez, if a tower is missing that's pretty bad though. Heh, the I-90 bridge in FS is missing the part that extends from Mercer I. to the shore of lake Washington in Fs2004, but it was there in 2002, weird. Roll Eyes

There will be lots of spin-offs with this product, some good some Forget it. But jee it looks good. We shouldnt forget that the love of aircraft, also had the wonders of seeing the planet we live on from above the clouds.

I was always in awe at the changes in the scenery below. and i cant wait to get this product. Its a long flight from the airport at Sydney Direct to LAX. and to see a real land scape with true land marks will have tears of joy no doubt.

I test each sim value by flying around the lax site looking for Disneyland. i was happy to find it in 2004.
I had many years of flying over LA when i was with QANTAS. any one got a screen shot of Disyland ?
