Well,..............I bit the bullet and bought it, and what a nice piece of work it is! 8)
It put's the USS George Washington CVN 73 in four locations; Gulf of mexico, Bay of Biscay, the Persian Gulf, & the Sea of Japan.
It includes 6 aircraft; The F-14 Tomcat, F-18 Hornet, E-2C Hawkeye, CH-46 Seaknight, AV-8B II Harrier, & S-3 Viking.
Is compatible with Fs2k2 & 2k4, and has ArrCab too! 8)
I havent yet tested the cables, but will let ya know as soon as I do, heh, I was too exited to go for a landing, besides it will take alot of practice approaches before I even dream of puttin the wheels on that deck.

sweet looking, but does the ship actually move around or is it stationary in one location?
(other thah the fact they used the same carrier for 4 locations across the globe)

Rodger that Pete, yeah,...................Im lovin it,..........big time!
The arrestor cable program so far is working, I know the catapult does,.........that was cool!!
Heh, heh, but as yet i havent been able to get her on the deck to test the cable catch. But Im confident it does, I just got to get a grip on the approach.
I allmost made it on this one but again was too high as you can see. Also note the operational FLOLS(Fresnel Lens Optical Landing System) in this shot of me overshooting( again
)
I'll get it yet, I had her lined up good this time, but was just too chicken

Yeah Flyboy, eh, heh, I'd been passing it up for a month for the same reason. But I didn't have anything better to do with the 30 bucks it cost, so this time out to the store, so I went for it.
I gotta admit I've got some other Abacus stuff as well and wasnt impressed, but this one,........well you bet im happy with it.
Thanks for the comments friends, and here's a few more.
Heh, I gotta try driving around down here with one of my vehicles.
Early morning, sea of Japan,(sorry it's so dark)
heh, this guy was too interested in watching the cameraman to notice me taking off.
See ya....................
Later guy's gotta get back to work.

I got Flight Deck 3 too, But I don't it is compatible with FS2004. Abacus states that you have to purchase a upgrade disk from them that makes it compatible with Fs2004.
Can you please let me know if this is a true statement or just be like Danny DeVito in the Direct TV commercial and just say "LIES I tell you it works just fine in FS2004 and I didn't need any stinking upgrade disk".
Because I am about to get paid next week and I am thinking about buying that disk!

almost forgot to ask
!
How did you get below the deck to explore the hull of the carrier?
How did you get the traffic and people on the flight deck?
Iask because I have been trying to figure that out when I used the program in FS2002 and I never got it to work for me!

Hey Mav, thanks for stoppin by.
All these shots are from Fs2004, now the Flight Deck III that I bought had a sticker on the box that said it worked for Fs2004. The box said for 2002, so Im assuming that the ver. I purchased is the 2002 verwith conversions to make it compatible in 2004.
And it is, in fact for both 2k2 & 2k4, the install dialog box had two buttons, one for 2002 & one for 2004 which ever one you had you'd just click the appropriate button.
As for getting to the lower deck, I slewed to get there.
As for the hands on deck, I didnt do anything they were there already, and are static.( dont move around, I wish they did, that would be cool.) And they may be something new for 2k4, I dont know,.....I never had the 2k2 ver.
Have fun Mav,....................Chuck. 8)

Thanks Chuck
Though when I purchased mine it said created for Fs2002 and didn't have that playable with Fs2004 sticker on it. So I think I might have to cough up that extra $20 to get the upgrade disk.
I just purchased it October and got a new computer and played Fs2004 on it and now I am stucky!
Well I will try it anyhow and see what happens! Thanks for replying!

OH HAPPY DAYS!!!!!!
Now you are going to laugh at this! How many of us do some serious deep cleaning around the house on the weekends and come accross missing items!
Well today I was cleaning out a drawer full of junk paper and low behold I found the registration card for Flight Deck 3 and I told myself let me check the drawer and all its contents for the missing sales receipt.
I FOUND IT
!!!!!!!!!
Oh I am going to Abacus right now and claim my free upgrade !

There is suppose to be some kind of guide to assist you with landing!
Its a bar with interchanging levels. As you approach the carrier it bends and the object for you is to keep the bar straight. As you adjust you line up with the carrier perfectly. It's one of the new features for FS2004.
I use to cheat in FS2002 on landings. Some were good and somewhere awful. But I made it on deck none the less for wear and tear sometimes.
Here's a hint. Before you take off note the altitude of the flight deck. When you take off fly straight out then do a turn around. Watch your GPS as to not lose sight of the carrier. As you turn about come to the rear of the carrier and line up with it from the distance. Visually watch your altitude and speed. If you slow down too much you can't adjust your altitude. As you close in to the carrier line up with the deck and slow your throttle. Then belly Flop (cut all throttle) when your over the deck!
Remember speed and altitude are key to landing! Fly to fast you crash into the deck. Fly too slow you fall out of the sky too fast. Find the sweet spot! Good luck

Oh happy days I made it!!( after 8-10 attempts
)
Whew! Yeah I died a few times, but my biggest trouble is it seems is just keeping the slope, and the darn carrier in sight, I keep losing sight of it and wind up having to raise my seat(shift+enter) to keep it in sight so I can see the FLOS.
But damn, what a good feeling once you get it down and trapped!! Heh, heh, yeah ya gotta get up and strut around awhile
8)
Alright guys get this elevator goin, I gotta go pee!!!
Ahh, now to go hit the shower!
Hee, heee! As you can see, im havin fun with this.

Here's another at night, on the downwind leg, it's kinda dark but I like it
(Hmmm, dont know what happened with that night shot, it disappeared for some reason, so I replaced it with this one.)

Congratulations on your landing one guestion though. You said you had to pee and just as you were parking you said you had to take a shower. Did you do something in that plane we don't need to know about
? I see you cracked the canopy to let in some fresh air
Anyhow i noticed your not running the water effects program. You should give it a whirl, it'll make your carrier experience feel more real. you might even get a little sea sick coming in and seeing that water looking so real!

Hmmm, water effects program? I didnt know there was one,..............uhh at least as far as FS is concerned, I got the sliders all the way in the settings.
Or is that something that Flight Deck III/Arrcab does, didnt see anything in the instructions or readme on that. Or no wait,........could it be in the fsuipc readme? Hmmm I'll have to check it out.
Uhh well, errr Uhhh yep I couldnt hold it Sam,

The water effects are right here on SimV. Go into the Scenery Section of Downloads and look for the file named FS9WAT. They are truly breath taking take a look at how much better you sim experience can become
Still waiting for upgrade disk too. I sent them the copy of the reciept yesterday and today again! They trying so hard to tax $15 bucks off me instead of $4

hi Prowler,
Alot of people make negative comments about Abacus! Even I would agree with them that their addons do suck! Their planes look terrible, there is better duplicates of the planes they make here for free.
But hands down Abacus has one of the best addon creater programs and this download Flight Deck III is awesome! It simulates a catapult launch off a carrier deck realistically. You get sling shot off the deck and you literally sail through the air for a couple of seconds and then because you are at full thrust you gain altitude as in real life.
The Carrier is extremely detailed and functions well, The arrestor cable sometimes is difficult but also realistic. the Landings raise the hairs on the back of your neck as in real life. Programs like this bring more life into your Flight Sim experience. We still have a whole year of FREE DOWNLOADS, you never know what people will create next!
Its only in your mind, strong mind, strong soul and nobody can take that from you!

Hi ya Prowler, thanks for stoppin in!
Yeah you got that right,................fun is the name of the game, and I for one,.......love to have fun!
Glad to hear your getting this great program, heck ya know I'd have loved it even if it didnt come with any aircraft at all, the Carrier and Arrcab alone is worth it.
And heck you can fly any plane ya want off it, not just the ones that come with it, the catapult will launch any plane with a tricycle gear and in fact there are lots of freeware & payware military planes with carrier landing capability/ tailhooks.
Hmmm, I wonder, I bet you could even launch a Cessna from it.
Hmmm,
I'll have to give it a whirl and find out. 8)
Have fun Prowler, come back soon!!

Crazy Craig, waz up, yeah the A4 Skyhawks will be a nice addition to my hangar deck too!
So thanks ahead of time Prowler!! 8)
Well I installed those water textures, and I geuss I got three different ver. of them.
Bill came out with some revised ones after some folks feedback on them.
Im still making up my mind on which ones I like best, but I think Im leaning towards the later ones he did as the first ones have a somewhat undesireable effect when up close, like when ya land on water in a float plane.
But dang sure look good from the air though.
But there is a, well,........a rotational cyclic thing they do which im not sure if I like or not, like I said Im gonna have to fly with them all to see which I like best.
The first ones:
The ones for calm winds
And for windy

I think the first one takes the cake. The others look too calm. Now if the creater could implement changes in the water textures do to the weather conditions. Then that would be hot.
It can't be choppy all the time and it can't be calm all the time. It is just not real. But the first one looks great from air indeed!

Yep, ditto. Well I've settled on the windy textures that Bill made later, those first ones though they give such a great look, but the pulsating effect drives me nuts, and I like to land on water alot and it looks very unrealistic when right on the water.
You know what we seem to really need is a combination of all three, and have the sim use whatever is appropriate..............maybe in FS2006 we'll see water done right eh?
Well here's a few more, but im wondering if they will fit in the thread, I may have reached the limit, well here goes;

I am still waiting for ABACUS to ship my upgrade disk! You are now officially killing me with the insane beautiful screen shots at all angles!
Oh BTW I see you turned down the first water effects because of the motion of the ocean. Is someone getting a little sea sick

FD3 is nice, but it's too modern for my tastes.

man why does everyone enjoy old stuff! I love jets and modern things! Guess it's my generation. I grew up with the F14 Tomcat so I guess It doesn't matter what they come out with in the future, I will always have a soft spot for the cat.
I guess that is why older Simmers have that love for old war props. It is the plane of thier time! Well no gripe here! But we are all SimV so we have hundred of choices on what to use to bust a Tower!

Given my choice of aircraft to complete a strike mission, I much prefer the hi-tech weapons systems (can you really call them "fighters?")of today. As simulation, I prefer the "old" planes.
Unless it's a short run, I prefer a comfortable airliner - first class when and if.. For a short run, I'll settle for a 19-passenger turboprop - since it's so hard to get a DH Heron.

Here are my five cents:
I always remember those crowded decks of aircraft carrier of mid 80´s, full of a-6´s, f-14´s,a-7´s a few a/f-18´s back in home ports you could see some a-3 skywarriors, Skyhawks (my beloved one...my other car is a scooter...lol) ect. Man you could see a lot of different types for even the same or different purposes, but they were a sight to see, and in dessert storm they all went to combat, ,for me, those were the times when you saw a lot of types, gorgeus planes them all, you name it, it was flying back then. Times have changed and well for us, is time to let the new generations watch and maybe in their future they will be saying the same about those new types. For military aviation early 70´s late 80´s was the time.
there are my 5 cents.
now i´ll call the nurse ..since i have the urge to take a leak............LOL
oh by the way..i´m only 32
best regards

Yup, I heard that Prowler. Sigh..........me, well.........I love'em all, fromt the oldest, to the newest.
Jeez, I took a count of the aircraft I have in FS2k2, and there are over 150! From the Wright flyer, to the Space Shuttle, and every thing in between.
Heh, heh, I even have that silly "Yellow Submarine"!
I just love anything that flies, and now im getting into "Orbiter" a free sim that I've had on my system for a year and just never got around to. And boy is it a trip, man what a rush!!

You know it is only now that Abacus has confirmed my original order that I placed on Dec.8 and is now processing my order for FLIGHT DECK 3 UPGRADE as of Dec. 28. Dude this is bad business
I am not satisfied.

Yeah, know what ya mean Sam, I dont think I'll be getting anymore myself.
Im perfectly happy with Flight Deck3, but I have to admit though that the only planes that are wirth a crap are the F-18, F-14, and the S-3. The rest aint no better than some freeware ones I have, or have had.
Jeez, the Chinook seems like cardboard from the inside.
. The Harrier's VC the canopy frame dissapears when panning.
However, the Arrcab works well, and the carrier itself is quite good, and well detailed.
But I think that overall the quality from Abacus varies so much from one product to the other, I have their Military aircraft collection on CD, and well as I said, I've seen free stuff that is as good or better(Dan Reimer's F-18).
And dude, I just got two other planes, one from Flight1(Cessna 310 Twin) & one from Captain sim ( F-104), and the quality is 100 times what Abacus's is...........BIG TIME!! Man the F-104 will knock you socks, shoes & pants off!
Take a look at awash's thread on it.

FInally they abacus has delivered the FD3 upgrade! Man it was a pain in the butt waiting for with all the mishaps in shipping. But well worth the wait! I am happy now!
This is my pass by the tower station on my first landing in FS2004!
This is a pic of me on standby at the catapult for my 2nd carrier take off! Man I really love the new tomcat! It is so much more better then the one that came with FD3.
Well I think it is time for maverick to do his infamous flyby the tower at over 500 knots!
Hold your coffe tight guys!

Dude I think my video card has an issue with MSN Gaming Zone. I tried it once and it caused my computer to crash! When i recovered the system, it was saying something about a video card error and incompatiblity with a newly installed hardware or software.
So sadly enough I don't think this video card is going to allow me to have any fun with freinds. I am looking into replacing it with a NVidia 256mb video card. I am currently using a 256mb Radeon ATI card.
But it feels good indeed man!

Man that is strange, I never heard of a video card having any trouble with an online server software, but then everytime I here something about those radeon cards,......it's bad. It's why I've stayed away from ATI period. Nivivdia is the best as far as im concerned.
I been thinkin of upgrading mine tho too, but im going with Nividia whatever I do. I got this new MOBO, to install, an ABIT KD7A, but im trying to get some enjoyment in for awhile before I try installing it again, and I got to get something to back up all my data on this drive, too cause it may require me to do a format & re-partition of my drive to get windows to load with that new Mobo. heh, and even then I still will have to re-activate windows by phone...............what a pain!!!

gotta question there for ya Sabrehawk,
how did ya get the aircraft into the belly of the hanger?
I tried using the slew mode but all it did was manuever forward, backwards, right and left.
Is there any particular place on the carrier you have to go to get refueled! (just wondering if the station is in the belly of this carrier)

Hey Mav, the slew command for up & down movement is "Q" for up, and "A" for down. Just position the plane directly over the elevator that is in the lowered position( the one in the rear to starboard) and then use "A" to slew down to the platform. Then it's just a matter of slewing laterally to get inside.
Hmmm, as far as fueling, I dont know if it has that function, but you can always refuel by means of the menu function of FS.
Cheers Sam......................Chuck. 8)
