It had a full system re-install, new hard-drive about a month ago when it went back to the shop as it had mushed itself up similarly then.
The computer never came with much software, the motherboard drivers/4 in 1 stuff, nero and supervoice something. Interestingly when the computer came back from the shop they hadn't installed nero but the disc was an OEM version. The problem was they had suplied the disk in a clear cd sleeve and not given the code! We took it back to them and they didn't have the code either! I dont know what you make of that....
The system generally has been extremely unstable, restarting for no reason, scrambleing, locking etc since we got it. Even after it was repaired it still has similar problems. Is this to do with the hardware in the computer? The guys in the shop said 'sometimes windows gets a little confused and needs sorting out' or something like that. Do you think this a windows problem or is it the computer itself? The old dell im on now has never crashed in 4 years and we do exactly the same stuff on it)
(Added on afterwards: the next bit is just a rant so if you don't want to read it go down untill a similar measage
)
I am never going to get (let dad get
) a computer from here again. When CFS3 came out the computer (this one im on now) was unable to run it, later that day dad came back with the computer out of the blue. He had seen a shop saying 'Computers' on it and came out with this - No research even into what was the standard at the time at all. First impressions weren't good. The Mercury speakers weren't as good as the speakers on this one which is about Four years old (Dell). The keyboard was light and the digers didn't always correspond with the symbol written on them! and the mouse...... It was a tough job clicking the icon you needed to click.....
FS and CFS3 ran ok, but back then I thought the lower the FPS the better! I thought it meant it "Locked" at 15fps!!
You can see the specs a the bottom, minus the FX5600 for a GF4 MX 440. Haven't a clue who the bits are manufactured by. Dad has the view that all the bits inside the computer are made by the same people regardless of brands. I personally think this is about a parrallel to saying a skoda is made by the same people as mercedes or something.
I also doubt how competent these people are, eg. when the computer was in the shop we we had them put in the FX5600, but they didn't install it in AGP mode! - I don't see much point having an FX5600 if its not running in AGP mode really! The whole reason they installed it was because I didn't think I could do it - I ended up spending quite a while scouring the internet for a how-to, something talked about 'mobo drivers' but I didn't really know what they were talking about so I just stuck in a disk that said 'Motherboard - "the brand you can trust" and luckilly the second option said 'AGP drivers' or something so I pressed it and it worked - I must confess I was very proud of myself
The Point is if these are proffesionals, why can't they install a graphics card properly?
(Added on afterwards: End of rant)
Anyway, sorry if thats all to long, just got in a sort of rant! The one thing the computer has done is teach me alot about how computers work and what it all does. The question is, what do I do now? We were going to upgrade the computer in a few weeks (dad is in chile then to australia at the moment, the problem is hes so into his work he can't be bothered with this sort of stuff when he's at home so just does things on the spur of the moment with no research or advice - and without even asking) but I could possibly upgrade now. The new computer would come with an XP disk I suppose so I could mend the other one myself. Or I could take it back to the shop (just out of warranty
) and get them to sort it out. Seeing as we were going to upgrade anyway the first option to me sounds the most sensible. I would Appreciate any advice....
