The Celeron is no more!  Grin  Grin  Grin

My brother in law & Friend Tony a.k.a @Wolf@ has just upgraded (I built it!  Roll Eyes ) to a 2.8ghz h.t. 800fsb p4 with Springdale mobo & Dual channel 3200 RAM.

I scrounged his old p4 1.8 (Willamette core ) from him and enjoyed ripping out the old Celeron greatly!!!

CFS3's still crap  Roll Eyes Then again, I reckon it should be ok when I get another 512MB 'o RAM for XP.......

Time to alter the profile I suppose.....

Paul.

I saw your new specs.

I thought all p4's had 512k of L2 cache........

Learn something new everyday.

I wonder if a bios update (if any) will solve the issues on yer new rig. We played around with a Jetway board once, didn't like it much and sold it, but that was a while back.

Sorry to hear about the SB 5.1, how did you break it?

Also, I found XP uses around 120mb of RAM when you have plenty to spare....... and FS2004 was chewing around 120mb, all sliders up (just for the test) in Seatlle.

So, I wouldn't pin my hopes on too much improvement for CFS3 with more RAM, or does CFS3 chew lots more RAM? I uninstalled mine so I couldn't test it.

You must have been a bit  Undecided with envy building that PC for Wolf. Sounds Like a nice rig.

I built one with a P4 2.4 CPU pretty much the same other specs, put it on Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000Pro mainboard. This mainboard is fully featured and has some nice touches.

I've seen these boards cheap lately, (of course I paid more), and the only beef I have is that when I overclock to 3 gig,  it gets a bit warm.  Grin

You know, the darn thing still wouldn't quite keep up with my AMD setup (nForce2 and XP2600+) in the Graphics benchmarks, I was gonna sell the P4 rig but my daughter thought it was the duck's nuts so she claimed it............ DOH! I'm still a poor boy..........

Hi Congo,

Your right & wrong about the cache of P4's, early "Willamette" core P4's had 256k L2 cache, the later chips "Northwood" core have 512k L2 cache.

If your really rich like I'm not...... You'd be opting for the "Extreme Edition" this little brute has 512K of L2 cache and 2MB ! of cache  Shocked Ok there about $900 but then again, the 3.2ghz P4's cost that much just a few months back.....

Wolf's rig is nice, and it makes me sick with envy! Theres still some tweaking to do, with some twiddling, I've seen 15,202 3D Marks!

Tonight, I'm going to try my FX5600 in his brute, he wants a DX9 card to play new games, I may just swap it for his ti4600 - which would suit my 4XAGP board better than my strangled 8XAGP FX.

I'll keep you posted mate.

Paul.
