Using Afcad, I want my outgoing planes to take off runway 13R at KOTM (Ottumwa, Iowa) and incoming planes to land on 13L.  Unfortunately, I can't get the AI to use anything but 13R.  I tried closing 13R for landings and 13L for takeoffs, but that didn't work.  I read in the instructions that this would only work on prrellel runways, so I reconfigured the entire airport (and the taxpayers didn't pay a dime!) to meet that requirement.  But still, it only uses one runway.  I know that we cannot control ATC, but I also know that the AI commonly uses multiple runways!

HELP!!

Kevin

I haven't looked at the instructions included with AFCAD for a while, but I think it explains somewhere how to create an airport with such a system running.

I think the drawback is that you have to create two seperate AFCAD plans for each Runway and seperate the taxiway structure. I haven't ever tried it, mainly because I'm too lazy, but I can see how it might work.

Browse through the instructions and take a look I'm sure its in there.

Hope that helps,

Andy

That was the earlier versions, where you had to create overlays Andrew.

Well, I got them to use that runway, but now they won't land.  They get to 1100 ft and then go around.  I ran the fault finder and there were no faults at the airport, there was plenty of parking, and no one on the runway.  When does the AI count a space as available?

Mmmh, funny situation.
What I thought, is that if there are no available parkingspaces left, the AI would still land, but then disappear on the runway, Pippin. Space is available if there is no aircraft in a spot, and it's diameter is smaller or equal to the aircraft diameter. It has to be connected by a link to the taxiwaysystem, blablabla.

I found that most 737's have a diameter of 32 meters, where the 'Gate Small' parking is 31 meters. So 737's will need 'Gate Medium' parkings, unless you enlargen the diameter of the parking by 1 meter, or downsize the aircraft with 1 meter. Did a lot of good for my airport.

I have a problem with runways as well, the AI will land at parallel runways @ my EHAM, but uses these 2 for landing AND for takeoffs. Whatever the winddirection, these two runways are all the AI will use. Closing one for takeoffs and the other for landings won't help (which makes the issue similar to yours). TJ_Gumby told me in an earlier post the runway item is not yet completely understood by him.

I am afraid I have nothing more useful for you, so far.

Well, if you go to the properties for the runway you can choose "Closed for Takeoff" or "Closed for Landing" or both.  It seems to work pretty well...
