I brought IL-2. Thought it was the best thing since sliced bread for about a month. Then went back to CFS. IL2 just doesn't have the gameplay of the CFS series. I don't know what it is but IL2 is just missing what CFS obviously has. Tongue

What? The scenery? Forget the scenery. Besides, you'll most often concentrate on shooting and avoiding your enemy rather than wondering your mind and see yourself get shot. Grin

the other wayx round for me. i don't like the "in the cockpit" feeling of CFS,because you can't pan your view via mouse. plus,IL-2 has some very useful function ,namely the "slow motion" mode , working ammunition indicators (only german a/c) and the best damage model ever.
you don't need text at the top of the screen for knowing where you've been hit,you can see it!.

I don't know what it is that makes CFS better than IL2. I admit that the damage model in IL2 is excellent. But the pan with the mouse really just constantly pissed me off as I much prefere to use the hat stick. As I couldn't fly my plane with my right hand and use my right hand to move the mouse about.

All I can say, and others will agree, is that CFS is better than IL2 for some unknowen reason. Maybe its just the madness of CFS.

Whats more, IL2 has been out for years and there are practically no addon aircraft out there on the internet. Its worse than CFS3!!! Shocked

Well, I don't care at all about addons for the IL-2 series.

You're right, the IL-2 series has been around for some time. However, IL-2 Forgotten Battles has only been around since March 2003. So, it's not that old.

The next release [IL-2 Battle of Britain] will only happen in 2005.

UBI may be taking too long to release their products, but at least their products are made with better quality and functionality than Microsoft's products. This is because UBI is pretty much listening to the demands of its customers [the customer is always right. Wink ] and it uses that extra time to fix whatever bugs may exist before they release their final set.

Microsoft, however, does NOT take its time. Bill Gates is more into your wallet than he is into your demands. So for him, time is money and he doesn't care about the bugs in his products.

I like how I am able to pan around with the mouse. It helps me look around more quickly and fluidly.

I found out about a weapon that one of the Russian planes carry in the sim. A friend of mine showed me.

If you fly the IL-2 aircraft, you should install it with those weird things that look like two black tubes set at an angle.

Fly over your target and press the release button. You'll see some balls fall and in a second they'll collapse into huge fireballs.

I never thought it was possible. It is so cool, it's freaky. Cheesy Grin It's like dropping napalm over your enemy. SWEEEEEET

Can CFS3 do that? It never did. Even if you could, you'll need addons. IL-2 doesn't need addons [mostly] because the features are already there.

If their was a problem with IL-2, then all you ever need was to either restart the sim or install a simple patch with miracles.

In CFS, if their was a problem, you'll have to explore the root directory and modify some files or run a complicated application or reinstall the whole sim or reconnect if you're playing online and many more complicated things.

Not only that, IL-2 has better graphics, realistic damage effects, better sound quality, better compalibility, and better functionality. All that at a very good price of $30-$40 when released and after about half a year, it's down to $20.

IL-2 Forgotten has only been around since March 2003 and already the price is dropping like a brick. It's already $20. Compare that to M$'s CFS and MSFS.

I'm not trying to tell you to buy IL-2. I'm just telling you this so that you can make a better decision when buying a combat sim. It's a money saver.

The only planes that I don't like in IL-2 are the German planes.

I always like flying planes that are in the Allied Side. I don't like flying planes that were built by a country that lost the war. Grin

WinkHa, ha, yep I geuss we all kinda tend to relate to that which is associated with our own country.
And well,........ I respect that,.............it's honorable Wink
But then I also like to play the other side as well, if for nothing else just to get an idea of what it was like for them.
And also umm,....... well,....... out of respect to the gallant men who fought for what they believed was right, just as ours did also. For many of them were oblivious to the hidden agenda of Hitler, the atrocities of the SS, ect. and were simply serving their country, and doing their job.
I for instance loved playing the part of a U-Boat Commander in "Silent Hunter II", and it taught me much about the war, and from another side of it that I had previously not completely understood.
Heh, not to mention a healthy respect for the brave men who manned those U-boats,..............75% of which never came back. Cry

I think Il-2 is fantastic Grin

CFS 3 sucks big time Tongue totally arcade like.

I fly in real life and for some reason flying on of the Il-2 aircraft in full cockpit mode just feels right. Theres just so many great little details.

...
Look I drop the bomb whilst traveling low and fast on the water (Which looks fantastic by the way.)

...
And it skips and bounces along  8)

...
You can even set time delays on some of the bigger oes to give you time to get out of the way.

...
You can set up huge air battles with more customisation than CFS 3 with up to 16 people on your side that you can command and lots more onthe enemy side. (although I do not enjoy having 3 109's on my tail Roll Eyes )

...
I think the ground textures are great and due to the fantastic collision detection in this game you don't die unless you actually touch something unlike a certain other game Wink

...
I love the fact that you can crash land even if it is at a slightly strange angle you can crash land in a fantastic dispay of snapping controal cables, wings flying off and bending propellors all generated in real time.

Its a fantastic game for the serious simmer.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!

Bill Gates has a tough competitor [UBI Soft].

With IL-2 on the market with its rock-bottom price, I guess Billy will have to SOON pay attention to our demands than to our hard-earn cash.

I like flying the Yak-9U. I always fly with that plane because it is very good at maneuvors. However, even with that plane, I die and fall like a fly while playing online. Grin Tongue Those players are better than me. Embarrassed

I love how the bombs skip. I use that to my advantage.

In CFS3, the bombs just explode on contact with the ground. These means that you have to get real close to your target and that means putting yourself in danger of your own bomb blast.

Oh, BTW. I tried to buy IL-2 Forgotten Battles in Best Buy, but it was all sold out.

I'll order it online. They say it usually takes 3-4 business days to get to my house.

I guess you must have hit it on the sweet spot. Wink Grin

The Hurricane should be in British colours, because I don't think the US ever made that plane. I sure can't wait for IL-2 Battle of Britain. Too bad we have to wait till 2005. Embarrassed

There was once a survey conducted by the UBI developement team. They say that the majority of combat simmers prefer to fight in the most documented parts of the war [BoB].

IL-2 Sturmovik and IL-2 Forgotten Battles always refer to the LEAST documented parts of the war like Stalingrad and Leningrad.

Just before I got rid of the 1st version, I found out that the IL-2 also carries a set of so-called TAPES.

If you wish to STRAFE your target, but can't see correctly, just simply fly over the target and release the tapes. The tapes will release a signifigant amount of coloured smoke on whichever ground it hits. This is so that you can locate your target more quickly. Just in case you're flying over a dense town.

I love the Russian audio. They sound and feel realistic. The same is true for the German audio.
