Those of you lucky buggers in the USA who can get to Florida will be able to see a Tempest V in the air soon, Kermit Weeks has one that is near on finished.

Isn't that the one being restored at PPS at Booker in the UK?

I meant to ask about that.  The sound cfg file says it's aliased to 'Hawker Tempest Framed/Sound'  What is that?  I was going to alias it to a Spitfire I have that sounds real good.

Pippin. I have no idea what this Hawker Tempest Framed\Sound is all about. Must be a missing part of the package or something. I aliased mine to the FS9 default DH Comet sound which I find satisfying although it might not be completely authentic. I've never heard a Napier Sabre but I've read that it had a distinctive scream, certainly nothing like a Merlin.

PS. The Napier Sabre was a beast of an engine. 24-cylinder H section sleeve valve. 2,400 hp.

I may be wrong here but I thought this WAS kermit's Tempest under restoration at Booker. He will be using the Napier Sabre engine in the finished aircraft. I say good luck with that one.
I hope it gets it's air test in the UK before it gets crated up for sunny Florida.

Pippin, I think that config should read Hawker Typhoon Framed/Sound. This plane came as a package with two Typhoons, a Framed "Car Door" model and a bubble top version. It had a sound set with the framed version and the other two alias to it.
The Tempest was then released as a stand alone aircraft, but kept the sound config from the packaged version. The Saber sound set is available, but sounds a bit naff so I use a Griffon sound with mine.

I downloaded the sounds too, but because fo all the crap on my desktop, I forgot to install them.  Do they really sound like that?  Kind if tinny isn't it?

Not too many people around now will ever have heard a Napier Sabre. I have no idea what they sound like - wish I did. I understand that the sound package you mention was recorded from a real Sabre. Nothing like i imagined but who am I to argue?

Yes, it is Kermit Week's Tempest at Booker, and I too hope it will get air tested over here first - although it wouldn't suprise me if it is done quietly like his Mk IX Spitfire and then shipped off almost immediately...

Well Fido pal, I have a slight Sim crisis at the moment so I've not tested it yet although I have one or two of Krzysztof Malinowski's P-40's kicking around on my HD so I will try it as soon as I'm flying again.

I think this is a very old recording that has lost some of it's quality over the years. I don't think a Sabre sounds anything like a Merlin or Griffon, but I would have thought it would have that deep big piston growl to it.
