Today the Japs decided to bomb our base...Well, not if we have anything to say about it. Smiley

My flight and I climb up to altitude and get in behide and above the bomber formation.  Their are two zeros in high cover in front of the bombers, but they never see us.

I my first pass I take some hits in the right wing and nose, but I manage to knock down three Betty Bombers in rapid succession...One.
...

Two...
...

Three...
...

This one was shot down but someone (don't know who) in my flight.
...

Along with this one...I tried to get a shot in but it didn't matter because...
...

It broke apart sometime after that shot was taken.
...

About that time the Japenese calvary showed up and made minse meat out of us.  Eight Zeros vs. seven of us.  (One was shot down by a bomber.)  Four more were to be shot down by the Zeros.

This one was the last, and I decided it would be best if we turned tail and ran for home, since I had only damaged one, their were only 3 of us, we were all damaged, and still eight Zeros....Throttle to the firewall and WEP. Roll Eyes
...

Back home.  We averted the bomb run, shot down eight bomers, (three by me. Grin) damaged one fighter, but lost five. Sad
...

That brings our squadron's kills to 16 kills, one damaged...8 are mine. Grin  But we've lost 7 in battle. Sad

Nice work Sock!  Wasn't almost 2:1 kind of a low ratio though?

No, I wasn't being sarcastic...  What was the usual kill ratio for the US against the Japanese? ???

I have no idea what the kill ratio in the Pacific was...But I know it was in the US's favor.

Thanks Hawker!

It's just quick combat Sabre...

i saw on discovery wings that the ratio  was 9:1 for hellcats,   don't know if that still applies to overall.
but i do know that the zero out performed every allied aircraft in climb and manuverability ( until the arrival of the bearcat) but couldn't match dive speeds or do high speed pushovers.

the bearcat was designed intentionally to fight the zero and incorporated secrets learned from the study of captured aircraft. but it arrived to late to see any action.
U.S. pilots maintained that advantage through superior training and tactics.

sorry ,  went off on a tangent

if any CFS3 users are interested,  there is a great bearcat model atwww.avhistory.org
