I realize that in order to land on a carrier, you need something like Arrcabs, but I wonder if anyone has ever tried to build that feature into the plane itself. Is it possible to make a plane stop short when, say for instance, the tailhook is down? It would make any carrier landable and might even be neat for short filed landings...

I think about as close as you're gonna get (without designing your own aircraft) is editing the aircraft.cfg file to have massive airbrakes and wheelbrakes. Then you could just hit both of those when you touch down.

That's how it used to be done pre- ArrCabs.

The only thing I can think of is making the texture used for carrier decks sticky at one end. Maybe adding a layer of invisible "mud" to the rear third of a carrier, not much use for take off tho'.
