My project doesn't show up in FS (2002) any longer.  I have encountered no problems whatsoever exporting all the latest iterations up to this point.
At first it gave me a, "cannot load model" error in FS.  And now no matter what I export from GMAX 1.2 into FS, it simply wont show up.   This all started immediately after loading FS Edit in an attempt to adjust some of the aircraft dynamics (I borrowed from default Lear 45 for my project).  And by the way, all the flight dynamics on the Lear 45 are grayed out so I couldn't edit them anyway.  So I just exited out.  So how did FS Edit mess up my project???

Please help

First check to see if panel and sound files are in the folders. Check simple things first. I don't use gmax so the rest of the question I can't help much with. But editing the airfile could be done with a third party editor like AirEd. Perhaps some one else can help with why FS Edit caused the problem. If all else fails try uninstalling the FS and reinstalling. Back up anything you want to save though, aircraft, flights, etc...Sorry I could not be of more help.

This is one reason I always advise people to leave FSEdit well alone. It's one buggy piece of software & there's no telling what it did to mess up your project. The first thing I would do is to open Aircraft.cfg in Notepad & examine it carefully. If all else fails you might need to configure the whole thing again.

I can't think why this would affect exporting projects from Gmax. ???

PS. Make sure the latest MDL file is in the Model folder of your project & that Model.cfg is pointed to the correct file name.

I erased my project's folder completely.  I then recreated it, did a fresh export from GMAX, recopied all the default cfg...air files etc., renamed the .air file to reflect my projects name...edited the cfg's to reflect that also (all the usual stuff).  And...the aircraft still wont show.

I'm with you guys...just say no to FS Edit..and the world will be a happier place Smiley

Risky. Providing everything is configured correctly it should show up in the sim. Is your project aliased to one of the defaults? Maybe FSEdit messed that up which could explain it.

OR - more likely - you changed something before exporting it from Gmax. Something in the MDL file that the sim doesn't like. Try exporting a simple test piece & see if that works. This might not have anything to do with FSEdit.

PS. If you can't figure it out zip it up your project & mail it to me. Just the basic aircraft with AIR file & Aircraft.cfg. I don't need any textures.

Yes...i've aliased the stock Lear 45.  And I have tried exporting simple test shapes etc from GMAX 1.2 into FS but FS doesnt recognize anything I export at all now.
Also...in FS Edit...if you bring up the Lear 45, you'll see that all the flight dynamics are greyed out so I couldn't change anything even if I wanted to.  I just exited it out and that's when it all began.  I've already reinstalled FS 2002 but I haven't tried exporting anything yet...but thanks for all the help.  When I'm at my wits end (which happens often) Cheesy  I'll def send to you.

The reason you couldn't change anything on the Lear is in the aircraft.cfg file, there is a little entry called editable=0 or 1.  If its a 1, you can edit the aircraft using FSEdit.  If its a 0, you can't.  But DON'T USE FSEDIT!!!!  Just edit the aircraft.cfg file (notepad) or the airfile (AirEd, a free download) manually.

This may help,or it may not.The way I check to know for sure if it is the MDL or not I put it in an aircraft model file I know is working and rename the orig as (example... Beech_Baron_58 o.mdl, and the problem mdl as Beech_Baron_58.mdl) that will narrow it down. Then if it shows up I move to the air file, then cfg,ect...also are you getting any Messages in the Flightsim?cant visualize model.

I'm back in business.  I had to reinstall FS then recopy over the makemdl files etc.   When I did that...the latest itereation of my project exported just find.   I'm not sure which file FS Edit may have written to to screw things up so a blanket reinstal worked fine.  Thanks for help guys...
