Well, not quite...
48,500ft. Tempest reclaims the Spitfire Altitude Crown
648kts. Not quite Super Sonic.
And a I pulled out of the dive with hight to spare. Still over 600kts, no fake shots here.
Spitfire F Mk24.

I gave it my shot.......best I could do over the Straits of Gibraltar was on my second run....recovery is a bit busy, so I missed the shot, but it was at 200' and just barely....do these count or were we challenged to use only a Spit ?
Climbing to 36,000 for the first run.......
First run........706.4 kts
Second run........741.1 kts

This is quite an old Spit Space pal. It's an FS2000 model and I think it's here at SimV. One of the first I ever downloaded.

Nice flying Pip, but what plane is that, Spit, Sea Fury or Mustang?

I saw it over at NoNodes.com...
Cool thing, I downloaded the textures for the two seater and accidently applied them to this one. Except for a small black area where the second cockpit should be, it fit like a glove...

Hey Pippin How come you are the only pilot who received an
overspeed
warning. ??? Oh well, I tried but at 47495 in a Tempest, I fell off on right wing and lost it. I was too busy to notice airspeed, had overspeed warning, and control problems that didn't stop, untill I did, very very abruptly.
You guys are good.
Fido
P.S. are you all flying in FS2K2/4 or in CFS2/3, just wondered if you were able to used war emergency.

Fido pal, check out the post Super Sonic Tempest
I've been using 2K2 and CFS2 but WEP only makes a small difference and hardly any at all at very high altitude. I've tried most of these planes in both sims and they behave just the same, so no sim advantage with CFS2 or 2K2.
To get really high, I'm flying hands off at max throttle and using only trim control to adjust the climb. It took over an hour to get the Spit 24 to 48K but only about 45 mins to get a Tempest II to 58K. The Spit was stable all the way down, but the Tempest gave me a few problems.

That's easy for you to say, True both of my attempts were fairly uneventful on the way up, that is untill the burble and suddend loss of lift. As for on the way down, control was not a problen with the Tempest, I just didn't have any. The Spit handled like a true lady, flying straight and true, all the way into the ground.
Like I said you have the touch. I would upload a pic of my Tempest, but the textures seem muddy, ??? she does handle like a dream at a reasonable altitude. I was blown away when I saw the pilots arms raise up, and push open the canopy after first flight.
