OK I have searched and searched but can not find an answer to this question.
I have two PS/2 ports on my computer, one for the mouse and one for the keyboard. I do not use the one for the mouse. Can I hook up another keyboard to that port and will both keyboards work. I know the simple answer is plug in another keyboard and see, but I don't have another keyboard and I really don't fell like going through the hassel of returning it if it doesn't work as I do not have the cash for the one I really want.
Thanks,
Kevin

Ummmmm,
Keyboards hooked up wrong have a habit of frying the little crystal osscilator or whatever it is that times the motherboard.
The solution to that little problem is throwing the motherboard in the garbage.
I'm not sure if the PS2 connectors will do this much damage, BUT......
Let us all know if you FRY your computer trying it!
One is GREEN
the other is PURPLE
They are NOT compatible.

Thanks for the info congo.
I went to the local computer shop and asked theis question and got this answer, "no problem, a PS/2 port is a PS/2 port you can plug anything you want into them and it will work. If you plug a second keyboard into the mouse port it will auto detect on startup and you can then use either keyboard. You could even type an email by alternating keyboards each letter and you will have no problems." Of course he then proceded to show me the $99.00 top of the line keyboard that they carried and just couldn't believe it when I told them that I liked it but could get it at best buy for $49.99 and I thought I would get it there. Man I used to sell cars and I can spot a "salesman" a mile away. I appreciate the seemingly informed response and have decided to just go the usb keyboard route since I know that a PS/2 and a USB keyboard can be hooked up and used at the same time with no problems.

Congo,
no need to do futher research as everything I have found seems to point in the direction that you are right.
I simply put the story about the comp store in there to point out that I think the guy was just trying to get me to buy the highly over priced keyboard so he was telling me that it would work. I should also mention that this store is kinda shady and noone knows how they stay in bussiness as noone I know has ever bought anything from them and I personnaly have only ever seen five cars in the parking lot in the year that I have lived here.
I drive past it about four times a day and have seen five cars in a year, seems kinda low to me.
Thanks again for your replies,
Kevin

Well, you may have believed him, bought the keyboard,
and then had to go back to him for a new motherboard if
you trusted him........ Buyer Beware.

A couple of Priceless lessons I have learned (most the hard way
) in life.
1. With a VERY few exceptions, Trust noone.
2. Shop around. I hate buying something and then seeing it cheaper somewhere else. You call it whatever you want, I call it having more money leftover to buy the next thing on my list.
3. NEVER buy something from a salesman that has that "If I don't make this sale I am gonna get fired" look. (The salesman in my story above had this look).
and finally,
4. Don't buy it cause its the top of the line. I am pretty sure that I am not the only one that has been burned by this one. Bought it cause it is the top of the line only to find out it is the biggest POS ever made and I lost the damn receipt so I can't take it back.
Anyways, I would never had bought something I know I could have bought for half the price somewhere else.
Living a little wiser nowadays,
Kevin
