You need to own what is your responsibility.  The game did not make you speed.  You let yourself speed.  There is no way a game forced you to exceed the speed limit.  I once got a ticket while speeding and listening to Mr. Jones by Counting Crows.  I was enjoying the music and not paying attention.  Should I send the ticket to Counting Crows?  Smiley

I would tend to agree with you within reason. I  have gotten in my car right after watching a race or playing one and was a bit lead footed. I beleive that the reason for this is that you were "invincible" during the game and in your subconscience you are still thinking that.
BTW, dont listen to a race on the radio while driving. One tends to think one is on the track in the race car Grin

Absolutely Poly...  Violent films should encourage you to commit mass murder and horror movies will drag you into worshipping Satan.

I agree 110% with Pippin.  Those who commit criminal acts and then blame the media, any media, for it are IMHO sad losers who cannot take responsibility for their actions.  Society seems to actively encourage this kind of thinking these days Roll Eyes

PS - That mini rant is not aimed at you Cub3pp, I feel that you were being a little tongue in cheek with your post.

I agree with Will up to a point. He has already proven he knows far more about psychology than me. We should all be prepared to take responsibilty for our own actions. However, I do feel that exposure to graphic violence & depravity from an early age tends to make it acceptable to impressionable minds. The more you're exposed to anything, whether good or bad, the more you will see it as normal, acceptable behaviour.

The excuse of the media & game developers is that they're only depicting what happens in real life. This is fine providing everyone watching or using this stuff is capable of discerning between fantasy & reality. It's obvious to me that some are not. I strongly suspect that this is partly to blame for the increasingly selfish, violent & cruel society we live in.

In the days of the great classic movies (like Hitchcock's Psycho) it was not necessary to show any violence at all. What you imagined in your own head was often far worse than anything depicted on the screen & had a greater effect. For the same reason, a book or radio play is usually much better than any film of the same story. The common trend now seems to be to show graphic details at every opportunity. The more violent or outrageously graphic it is, the better. I feel this is a backward step & reach for the Off switch whenever it's shown. I can do without it & often wonder where our capacity for imagination went. ???

I love playing CFS & sending robot aircraft & pilots to their doom. This does not mean I would go out in the street & do the same. In fact I hate the very idea of war or violence of any sort. I even feel guilty about killing insects that have just as much right to live as me.

I mthink it does have an effect on us, because one day while I was watching the X-games, and just after watching the BMX bikes, then I took my bike and went down to the skate park to do a couple of stunts  Grin Grin

And then if I swich from playing CFS to COF, then I have the tendancy to use the F-16 Viper, that I have the rocket effects downloaded for, then I start to go after the AI aircraft....

And if I switch from the extra 300s, to a large jet, or any other aircraft for that matter, I have the tendancy to try to do some stunts Grin

all in all, I thyink it is a mental thing that we don't really know that is there, but we just have the erge to do somthing simular to what you were previously doing, or watching. It is a mental thing that is there, that you should be able to control, but if you can't control it, you should get a desinated driver somthing simular to when you have a drink or two of beer Wink  I hope that you all understand it! Smiley

Firstly GTA vice city in my opinion doesnt give a true idea of speed in any of the cars. secondly common sense should tell you not to allow it affect your driving, personally i have never really had the problem ok a few times when its busy i have had a few thoughts of wanting an uzi to clear the crowd but nothing more:) personally i am a fan of racing games and not to sound to cocky, damn good at them even at the most realistic setting however i also realise these are only games and there is no way i can let that carry over while learning to drive and when it comes to driving,
Common sense people, i know most people here have it, please use it:) dont be like the rest of the world and blame these things on others.

You hit the nail squarely on the head there Craig. Wink
It might not be so easy as that though. We all do daft things at times even when we know it's wrong.

I don't know if anyone here is a fan of motor sports. I would be very interested to know if those that are can honestly say that watching an exciting motor race never affected their driving on the way home from the circuit. Roll Eyes

howdy Hagar.
Two things really, Firstly we all do,daft things! Yes , but most intelligent people are willing to accept personal responsibility, i know most people are here.
secondly i dont think its the actual racing part of motorsports that causes people to want to speed, its the adrenalin rush you get from it.

I agree with what you're saying Craig but surely this is the same thing. It doesn't matter what causes anyone to be influenced by anything - the result is the same.

ok, lets get this clear 1-i took responsibility for the ticket, and not paying attention to my speed(i was paying attention to all other aspects of diving the car).2-i am not blaming the media or any other crap(i dont believe in blaming media for EVERYTHING).3- i am saying that driving at high rates of speed on a video game might get a person used to driving fast(my parents wont let me take the car out after a F-1 race lol).

P.S.- its easy to speed when you drive a Mustang lol( i also think the police pick out faster cars from others when taking radar, i think its a self esteem thing).

A journalist had once wrote about these violent games.

He said that a lot of known places have experimented with these games by having these disciplined students play them. After they played the games, some of the students have momentarely been aggressive. This is due to adrenaline rush caused by the violent games [like Resident Evil, GTA 3, MOHAA, SoAF, etc]. So, the politicians [most of the govenors] have been thinking about banning the violent game because of this.

However, the writer pointed out that even without these rough game in our lives, our adrenaline can still be started anyways.

He pointed out that if he writes his story all alone in his room, he'll feel fine and calm. Then he said that if his boss was watching what he was doing [all the time], then the writer would get nervous, really aggrivated, and really annoyed.
