Page 483 in "One of the many reasons why I prefer FS 2002 to FS 2004".

Have a peek at these default textures for both sims...
Both series of shots are taken at Big Bear City Airfield, (L35), and the nearby lake, at 10 O'Clock in the morning, 23rd. of September, in the Autumn/Fall.
Big Bear Lake, an old diamond mining area from times long ago, high up in the mountains NE of Los Angeles, altitude 7,000 feet ASL, has this large expanse of water, (compare the water textures again!), which at certin times of the year has a very large sandy beach area where the water dries out.

This is accurately shown in the FS 2002 shots together with the bright Autumn texture colours.
The scenery in FS 2004 is much too dull and green for the same area, and the same time of the year.

FS 2002, even with it's default textures, more accurately depicts the time of the year in the scenery, eg: all the beaches will be bright yellow, and in the late Summer all the land will be brightened.
I think that the changes in textures throughout the year is more noticeable, and realistic, in FS 2002.
California in late Summer and early Autumn really looks sunny, especially with Gerrish Greys tree set...!!
I have lovely, bright, sandy beaches all the way down the Pacific coast!
(Many of the add-on DEM scenery meshes even further improve the scenery texture/colours in FS 2002).

So...!
Having stirred up a Hornets nest amongst the FS 2002/FS 2004 scenery enthusiasts, as is my wont, has anyone got any comments regarding the above...!
...(...Heads down Fozzer...)...!

It is possible that my comments have resulted in a dramatic drop in sales of FS 2004, if so, I'm sorry Bill, ..NAH!....but I still like your FS 2002...
LOL...!

Right...

Now...
Compare them with the default textures for FS 2002...

...and as a special treat...
Big Bear Sailing Club...now wouldn't you rather spend you holiday here in FS 2002... 8)...?
...

LOL... Grin...!

Note, that if you decide to try out this flight, remember that you will be flying at around 8,000+ feet ASL, your little carburettor will be struggling for breath and you will be very close to stall speed most of the time..!
...and take-off from the runway will require building up to full power, holding on the brakes, and using the maximium runway length to clear the trees at the end...!

Have a nice day...!

Cheers all,
Paul.

Hi Silent... Grin...!
I find my FS 2002 textures/scenery are FAB with my settings wound up at 1024 X 768 and anti-aliasing, etc,  turned on... Grin...!
The scenery in FS 2004 and FS 2002 are the default textures in both cases.... Wink...!

..as to my little sailing club scene...
Like my other scenery posts, you will have to dig into your pocket and purchase the fantastic LAGO FSSE, (Flight Sim Scenery Enhancer), program... 8)...!
.and like FS Navigator, worth every Penny/Mark... Grin...!

Cheers mate... Grin...!
Paul.

Nice clear shots as usual Foz. Cheesy

That's quite a difference between the textures. I think you're cheating just a teeny bit by using your own scenery. Being pedantic, as is MY wont, maybe they belong in Payware Screenshots? Tongue  Cheesy

Just joking

Hi Doug...!
No, really, the ground textures/colours are the default ones in both cases.... 8)...!
The only picture that is different is the last one, which only includes the added objects to create the sailing club.
You are all entitled to an extra luxury pic now and again... Wink...!
LOL...!

Re: The Payware Pic Forum. That is always confusing, because I notice that Members often include actual downloaded scenery to include in their aircraft screen shots in the Freeware Screen Shots Forum.
Rifleman often posts some Hangars, static aircraft, vegetation, vehicles, etc, in his screen shots of aircraft which always look fantastic... 8)...!

The Payware Pic Forum falls awkwardly between the Freeware Pic and the real Photo Forums...?

Cheers Doug... Grin...!
...(..and stop being pedantic...)...LOL...LOL...LOL...!

Paul.... Wink...!

P.S.  by the way, I always like to mention the "Payware" LAGO and FS Navigator programs now and again just to get certain peoples backs up.. Wink...!
LOL...!

I've always been pedantic. It's my trademark. Why change the habit of a lifetime? Tongue 8)

Why do I get the feeling this is a sly dig at me? Roll Eyes
The rules on posting shots are quite clear but purely voluntary like most things around here. I leave that to your conscience. Tongue Wink
