A Hungarian Air Force Yak-52 crashed earlier today nearly Szolnok, both the instructor and trainee pilot were killed. The exact reason for the crash is unknown, but it appears the engine exploded!!!

This is sad news. What would cause a radial engine to explode? I've heard of them blowing a pot which can be dangerous but that wouldn't cause it to explode. Roll Eyes

I don't know Hagar, the Hungarian news was scant on details. I think we'll have to await the results of the crash investigation. All I can say was it was a heck of a mess. The wings and tail were intact, but the majority of the fuselage was a think charred wreck Sad
