I was watching "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" last night, and they had a bit about a guy who came up with an incredible stunt to perform in a 300S.
He would come in low on the runway and then increase his AOA until he stalled a few feet above the runway. He kept the stall going and the nose up until he was doing only 32 MPH while pointed about 80-85 degrees up!
It was quite a feat to see done. It seems like the propeller ended up acting a little like a helicopter rotor, holding the aircraft up in the air in a stationary position. The guy is quite the accomplished pilot.
I was just wondering if this is possible in FS. I'm off to practice right now, and I will post a shot if I get it right.
I offer this challenge to anyone else who thinks they have what it takes (ozzy?
), and I want to see screenshots if they do. You can only be about ten or twenty feet off the runway, and must stall to about fifty knots or so GS. If anyone tries it, remember to turn on your smoke!

Easy!!! In the Su-29 you can actually hang the aircraft from its prop in a stall, and the aircraft will gradually spin around without you touching your ailerons. This is called a Torque Turn. It took me 4 attempts before I sussed it, but man is it fun

Ender. It's possible to hang on the prop in a vertical climb in the real Extra 300 - or do a tailslide. The FS version is quite realistic so give it a try. I might have a go myself.
We had a member here once (I forget his name) who could do all sorts of wonderful aerobatic stunts at zero feet in FS. He used to post vids of him doing it on his own site.

Hagar are you perchance talking about Boy van de Laar, as there is a demo video by him in the Extra available in misc. downloads (about page 5 or 6 I think).

We call this a " Torque Roll " since the A/C is moving about its " Roll " axis, but isn't flying on the wing.....it is in effect hanging on the prop, but has no benefit of the " anti-torque " tail rotor which a Helicopter has.....

Right you are Ken. I see guys at the flying club do this with R/C models all the time.
I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday.

Okay, I tried the stunt four or five times and the closest I came was coming up off the deck about 500 ft and then doing the stunt.
Where can I find some documentation on stunt flying in FS? Something that can teach me how to do it?

If you're interested in advanced aerobatics I can highly recommend the original Flight Unlimited by Looking Glass Technologies. It's outdated a & tad gimmicky & might be difficult to track down now. Worth the money for the manual alone. The flight model of the FU series is the most accurate & realistic I've found in any sim. This one was originally DOS but there is a Windows version (somtimes called Flight Unlimited 95).

Not bad for 1995. It still knocks the M$ flight model into a cocked hat. The generic scenery ain't bad either. In fact this has made me think about digging the CD out & reinstalling it.
PS. I'm not sure it will work on WinXP.

EB, I have been able to do this with the Aeroworks Concept V/ ARX-5x. It's an airplane similar to an Extra, I think it's actually based on the Giles though. Under the stats, it shows it as being powered by a 750hp Orenda V8. It looks remarkably like an aircraft called the Turbine Oracle Ravine(due to it's slim cowling, and PT6-like exhaust). The Ravine (sp?) was an Extra sized airplane with a turbine engine that could perform the hover, like you said, in real life. Part of the routine was also to put the A/C in a nose dive(straight down!) and apply full reverse thrust, this would create just the opposite. Nearly a hover with the nose pointed DOWN! This maneuver was to be it's undoing though, as it nearly killed the pilot, and retired the plane.
I have only been able to do this from external view, but if you download the Aeroworks(it's here on SimV) try this. Starting with the A/C at the end of the runway, on tower view, apply full power for about 10 seconds. Reduce power by about half and pull straight back on the Yoke and hold full back pressure. With some practice, you can meter the throttle and hold it in a slow, forward hover several feet off of the runway. Use smoke as a reference for your height above the ground.
.....so I loaded up the plane and moved to Middle-EEEE..........OIL..that is......
