The article is 3D for Flight Sims by Bruce Wilson.
Bruce Wilson is a nationally known expert is computer graphics who has an interest in flight sims.  He no longer contributes flight sim articles due to professional demands.

Note his discription of 3D, polygons and textures.

Here is an article tying the 3D for Flight Sims to CFS3:

http://www.mvps.org/directx/articles/vcache.htm

The article is Batching of Polygons with a Vertex Cache by Robert Dunlop, MS Direct X.

The tie is to CFS3 Config/Texture Info and the Vertex and Index Buffer Pools.  Default settings allow the graphics card to decide where the pool is to be located. D3DPOOL_SYSTEMMEM places the buffers in RAM.  The Index is in card memory.
My sliders are maxed and SYSTEMMEM.
I don't know if it makes a difference as the driver m/b programmed to utilize the efficiency of the vertex buffer and indexes.  I now know the intent of the Config settings.

???

Don't quite follow what the point is?

We've all been using 3D accelerated graphics for years now and no-one would even think of running FS2000/2002/2004/CFs etc etc you get the point , without it.

This is a very old article showing very old crude graphics that we laugh at now - because we are all so sophisticated Grin
