In response to several people looking for low disc space games, here is Jane's WWII Fighters from 1999.

The whole install is 256 MB and has most of the features CFS3 brags about now.  The virtual cockpit alone is worth the price of admission and IMHO even outclasses CFS3.  I chose the Spitfire for this tour, but the rest of the planes are similar in detail.

This is the opening screen.
...

A trip to the museum side shows the available planes.  This is a montage of 3 different shots, the real thing is much more impressive

...

Available planes are in order..  Spitfire, BF-109, P-38 Lightning, Me 262, P-47, P-51, FW-190

Clicking on a plane will give you several surprises including views of the weapons, engine, and cockpit.

...

and the option of bringing up this screen which gives you a video about the plane, test flying the plane, and the story of it's development and variations.

...

Flying is a dream.  The pic speaks for itself.

...

The virtual cockpit is almost photoreal and no where near as hard on the framerates as CFS3
...

The mission builder allows for up to 32 ac in a furball with 4 different experience levels and everything from an ai C-47 to a Ar-234.  It also takes only seconds to use.

...

The Me 262 in flight

...

A Mustang is about to eat someone's tail

...

There are many more surprises in this game, but I'll let you find them for yourself...

the VC looks awesome, almost as good as the ones in IL-2.
but the rest of the graphics look nicely too for the age of this game.

but what about the gameplay? are there just missions or is there a (dynamic) campaign? how do the airplanes handle?

Yes there is a campaign and single missions and they give a much better briefing than CFS3 does.  Flight dynamics seem a bit simplified, but there are three difficulty levels and it is customizable..  It also has black outs, red outs, sun glare, etc...

I'd deffinately get it-its one of the best flight sims ever, and it's cheap!  It's been out for about 5 years now and the graphics arestill decent.  Trust me, I've had it since it was new-I prefer it over CFS3.

Ya same here Joe, I've had it a long time but never installed it again when I built my new system, I bet it would run much better now, also I kinda forgot about it cause of the lack of a good site to support it.
I'll have to go check out the site Ace spoke of, but I must say that CFS3 has much better terrain detail, and clouds ect. But as for the cockpits well Jane's is best as Pippin's shots show Tongue

Yep, the poor man's version of CFS3, I actually have both Janes and CFS3 and prefer Janes version a whole lot better, for as every one else says it is very good on the frame rates.  I actually had it installed on an old 350Mhz computer before without a problem... Smiley For anyone looking for a very cool game I would recommend it over CFS3 anyday... Smiley
