Right. Heres some brain evercise for you:
1) I bought FS2002 Pro edition. Wich utility do i use to create new AIRCRAFT?
2) Where do i dial in DME frequencies? (On the default Beech 18)
3) On student pilot landing lesson you use VASI. I noticed the weird little gadgit that looks sorta like O M | light up appropiatly. The tooltiptext on it says 'Middle Marker' What is it, & how do i use it?
4) I used FS edit to move my CFS1 P47 Funderbolt into 02. If any of you d/l the original you'll know it worked. It generates previews etc., but when I fly it is TOTALLY invisible. HELP
Thanks a load.
Dan Garner.

Hi Dan. I don't do nav & all that stuff so I'll answer questions 1 & 4.
1. Gmax is bundled with FS2002 Pro. Unless they changed it on later releases this is the original version 1.0 which is no use to you as it can no longer be registered. You can download the latest version 1.2 here free.
http://www.discreet.com/products/gmax/
It's a big download. Look in the Aircraft Design forum for advice on using it.
4. The CFS1 default visual models are incompatible with FS2002. There are plenty of excellent 3rd party examples of most of these aircraft posted in the FS2002 & CFS2 sections on this site. These are usually much better quality than the CFS1 defaults.
Take my tip & don't use FSEdit for installing aircraft - or anything else for that matter. It's easy enough to install stuff using the same methods as for CFS1. You will need to alias panel/sound CFGs of some CFS2 aircraft if you want to use them. Try the ones from the FS2002 sections first. Also learn to add the FS2002 menu entries to Aircraft.cfg manually in Notepad.

The markers (O, M & I) are there to let you know the/your aeroplane's distance from the runway threshold. O is the Outer marker (I can't remember the standard distances, if there are any), M is the middle marker and I is the inner marker...

the DME is a function of the VOR. usually it will be "slaved" to either the #1 or #2 VOR. To receive DME which is called a paired signal, and independent of the VOR signal, you usually have to be within 200-180 miles, when at a flight level. Probably around 50-75 miles, when flying the BEECH. But you MUST select the appropriate VOR frequency.
Outer, inner, and middle markers are elements of an ILS. Placement of an Outer Marker varies from FOUR to SEVEN miles, and is independent of altitude. The MM is usually located 3,500 feet from the landing threshold. The IM is used for CAT II and III ILS' and is associated with Decision Height on a CATII, indicates progress on a CATIII. The VASI is a completely different animal altogether. It used for "visual guidance", to maintain a proper glidepath.
.....so I loaded up the plane and moved to Middle-EEEE..........OIL..that is......

Yes, Dan, that is the creation tool. And for any help, I would recomend the FFDS site's tutorials. They have helped me tremendously. Right here
http://www.freeflightdesign.com
. Just check the tutorials section on the left-hand side of the screen.
And Hagar: it seems FS2k2 was updated to version 1.2 a while back because I have 1.2 and I've had my copy for nearly a year.
