Has anyone ever heard of MTI brand Grahics Cards.  ???

I can get a 128Mb FX5200 TD for $117-00.

Are they crap, or mediocre , or OK?

(Gotta be better than 8 mb of integrated shared Grin Wink)

I'm putting together my new PC and I am having trouble justifying the cost of a Ge Force 5200 or similar well known model. I can get a 64 Mb card for just over $100, but I'd like to get a 128 mb to compliment my good memory (512 DDR @ 3200 - 400 Mhz).

Thanks  Wink

It's not the BRAND, it's the CHIP.

That's an NVidia chipped card isn't it? So long as it says NVidia and has the logo on the box (or ATI if I've got it wrong Smiley ) then you should be alright

BTW

60GB is not a big h/drive nowadays. Check it out - you'll prob find a 120 GB is not a lot more

I've just checked my trade price list for the UK. Be careful - there are 2 versions of the FX5200 on my list.

Version 1
=======

Generic Specifications
Chipset: GeFORCE FX 5200
256bits graphics controller
GPU Clock 250 Mhz
Memory Clock 400 Mhz
RAMDAC – dtual 350 Mhz
AGP 8X
TV out
DVI out

Software Included
Powerdirector
CD driver

Version 2
=======

Nvidia Personal Cinema FX 5200 graphics card.

AV breakout box input
Connection for cable or TV antenna
VGA connector
Full Microsoft DirectX 9 support - The Way It Is Meant To Be Played!
Multi language user manual

AV breakout box with attached connectors

S video in, composite in, audio connections to AV box. Able to connect to a VCR, TV, DVD, projector...
Personal cinema CD

NVDVD
InterVideo WinDVR
Ulead DVD Movie Factory
Ulead VideoStudio
Nvidia WDM and display driver
User guide
Multifunction wireless RF remote control

Quick Launch Keys for DVR, DVD, Photos, Music and Web
Full mouse functionality
Volume and channel control
Full VCR like control
RF receiver

DVI-CRT converter

I'd sell version 1 for approx US$ 90, version 2 for approx US$ 185

Check which yours is and then judge whether you think your price is OK Wink

Thanks for the info mate.  Wink

I'd say, for the price, it's the Version 1. This doesn't really matter all that much to me, as I only ever intend it to be used to run CFS etc. ($US90 is about $A130) so the price seems pretty good. All the DVD and TV stuff is neither here nor there to me.  Grin
(Does the Version 1 with the 'Generic Specs' have the same performance etc as far as CFS graphics and speeds etc are concerned?)  ???

I know Hd's are far bigger these days, but to be honest, the PC that the Mrs and I share now has a 20Gb HD and it's only half full. She's at Uni and I run a small business on it, so I think the 60 is more than enough. It seems, at least from where I'm getting the parts, that the big jump in price takes place after 60Gb. the price jumps to about 50% more for an 80Gb HD. So it suits my particular situation.

Thanks again.  Grin Wink

Bren, old buddy.....don't forget one thing you still have up your sleeve there......even if you don't get the total high level vid card which you may think as being a bit overpriced for your budget......you can always get in touch with Ramsa and see how much he can assist in the performance tweaking dept......we have all seen how much his expertise can help even a mid-range system......
My system isn't the best around, but imagine what Ramsa could do to improve my shots.....I have yet to call him, as I am willing to accept my quality and framerates as they stand..........He is the man !

Yep. I know. He helped me ages ago, to get my 'pitiful' little thing to a point where CFS2 was great and I could at least have a 'look' at CFS3.

I'm not going for the highest, biggest or best, but I would hope that this thing (specs below) will be a reasonable performer even on CFS3. If it's not. I give up. What the hell else can you do. I'll be stuffed if I'm going to pay for 3+ Gb processors, 1 GB+ DDR Ram and 256 Mb Cards just to have a go on a $100 game. M$ can go and get stuffed.......................lol  Grin Wink

In fact, now that I think about it, when you consider that what I'm doing know would have cost twice the price when CFS3 first came out, they have a bloody hide for releasing something that requires so much performance etc. Wankers.   Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Wink

There you go. I've had me whinge.  Wink

Oh by the way people, sorry, it was an MSI graphics card, not MTI.  Grin Grin Grin Wink Wink
