Looks like the Patriots just snuck by the Broncos in the last seconds to win 30-26!  What a game!

Well, that makes me 8-6 for the week.

Yeah, that was a tough game for the Broncos.  Do you really think that Elam is the best kicker in the league?  The reason why I was because I was discussing this with my brother last night.  Neither of us felt he was the absolute best, but was up there (I think we agreeded that Gramatica was the best).

well its definatly disputable:)
his major downfall is his age. but he is still one of the all time highest scoring kickers, and one of the most accurate of all time aswell and remember he still holds the leagues longest field goal(tied really) and he is capable of hitting over 80 yards if need be as he has done so in practice consistantly, if there is anyone who is better, Morton Anderson, would have be it.

I remember when he hit that 63 yard field goal, I was flipping though channels and saw that there was a game on and they were about to attempt a field goal (I wasn't paying that close attention so it just looked like any long field goal).  Then it went sailing through with a ton of room to spare and everybody made a big deal.  It was then I realized I had just seen the NFL field goal record tied (and I had stumbled accross it).

Anyway, I think if your gonna list the greatest kicker in hisory I'd have to say that Jan Stenerud is by far the greatest.  He's the only pure kicker in the NFL Hall of Fame (by pure kicker I mean they only player kicker-George Blanda (QB/K) and Lou Groza (DT/K) are also in the hall).  Of course, Morten Anderson is the best in our lifetime and will likely be in the Hall of Fame in the future.

ok i cant let this one die:) sorry but having finally had a chance to check out gramaticas season, heck both gramaticas. niether are having a very good season. the one your on about i am guessing is tampas gramatica?
either way hes only been 2 from 8 lately.
as for Anderson i have i only just seen how long he has been around the NFL, some 21 years, pretty amazing. however his season hasnt been that good either. he has been consistant on PAT's but hes had a number of problems on field goals for distance by the look of it. Admitidly Elam hasnt been in top form either this year but it does look like hes def up there.

Elam has always been near the top-and Martin Gramatica is having a bad year, thats all true.  But, when I think of the greatest I'd have to say Jan Stenerud is the best (with Anderson a close second).  Plus, he played for a long time too (19 years)-he played from 1967-1985 (Kansas City 1967-79, Green Bay 1980-83, Minnesota 1984-85).  He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1991.

Plus, all the kickers of today owe their jobs to Stenerud in a way.  He was the very first soccer style kicker in the NFL (and the AFL for that matter).  So, you could say that he is the first modern place kicker.
